Calgary is full of some pretty amazing people who do some pretty amazing things. We are a city that strives to improve. Proud believers in equality, diversity, and inclusiveness, we are a collection of individuals who go the extra mile to help those around us.
What’s most inspiring about Calgarians is the unbelievable number of hardworking people who strive to make Canada a better place, from fighting for a great cause to giving women a voice in the tech world, here are a few of our citizens who are making a difference.

This badass trio partnered up and created www.frankarchitecture.ca, one of Calgary’s leading architect firms! Each one brings a wealth of knowledge to the table – Kate has years of experience working nationally and internationally, Kelly brings a touch of contemporary art into all her projects, and Kristen has incredible attention to aesthetics.
And if that’s not enough to impress you, let’s talk business. FRANK has been involved in 92 projects around Calgary and Alberta with 25 ongoing projects at any given time. Frank is primarily involved in hospitality and has aided in the redefinition of the Calgary social scene. They have designed many iconic Calgary hotspots such as Clive Burger, National Bar, YYC Cycle and Alferno. These three have made a name for themselves and it doesn’t look like they’re slowing down anytime soon!

Kaiya and Aiyanna Leonard La Couvée // Creators of The Footprints Project
These Indigenous Calgarian sisters are the creators of The Footprints Project which is an art project created to remember and help raise awareness on missing and murdered indigenous women (MMIW) in Canada. After losing their mother in 2015, and after learning that there have been 1200 reported MMIW in Canada, the girls decided to collect 1200 pairs of shoes as part of an art-and-awareness project to honour their lost sisters.
Result? The girls ended up surpassing their goal by collecting over 1500 pairs of shoes and donating them to women-serving non-profit organizations.
Kylie Toh // Founder of www.thechicgeek.ca
Chic Geek is a non-profit organization that offers tech workshops for those of all skill levels. Kylie founded Chic Geek in 2013 in order to provide a space for women to learn about tech and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) at a beginner level. Since then, Chic Geek has hosted 98 technology and entrepreneurship events with more than 2000 men and women attending to-date. The team is managed by 15 female volunteers and has expanded to outside of Calgary including an invitation to participate in the International Visitors Leadership Program held by the US Department of State in March 2016 to discuss diversity problems in STEM.
Notice any similarities? These Calgarians all operate off a Canadian platform– they use .CA domain names to connect their efforts with the rest of Canada. By using a .CA domain name, charities and businesses alike can immediately let visitors know they are proud Canadians.
If you’re thinking of getting a website, consider getting a .CA domain here. It’s the best way to show off your Canadian pride because the domain can only be registered by Canadians. See if your .CA domain name is available!
The .CA is the Canadian flag on your digital backpack. Whether you are a small business owner, an aspiring entrepreneur, a storyteller, or just a person with a great idea, a .CA domain will show the world that you are 100% Canadian. Choose your .CA domain name today.
