How These 12 Celebrities Met Their Non-Famous Partners

Celebrity power-couples are dead. There's hope for us all!

Let’s be serious, this is pretty interesting. This is the story on how the surreal world met the real world.

Celebrities fascinate hundreds of millions of people around the worldthey seem to lead the craziest of lives with one awesome party, after some other hot media event, after their third magazine photo shoot of the day - and here I am dropping my iPhone on my face as I Tinder in bed... The idea of dating a celebrity is but a distant dream!

In today's interconnected social media world, even the world's biggest celebs can invite us into their everyday lives. We can join them for take-out pizza, or for a trip to the grocery store - and suddenly they seem way more real – we could totally bump into them if we were in the right place at the right time, our eyes meeting across the crowded room... yadda yadda yadda, marriage and babies!

Aaaaand then the dream comes crashing down as you realize celebs tend to only fall for other celebs. How could we ever compete? Hold that thought - there’s still hope! Love knows no limits and there are actually plenty of famous people out there who ended up in long-term relationships with non-celebrity partners. Here’s a collection of some of those celebs, and the stories of how they met their beaus!

12. Matt Damon and Luciana Barroso

In 2003, when filming the comedy Stuck on You in Miami, Damon’s friends dragged him out to a bar to celebrate the day’s filming. Upon arrival at the bar, Damon noticed bartender Luciana Barroso, and it was love at first sight! Allegedly, Damon jumped behind the bar to get the attention of Barroso, who proceeded to shout at him for being where he shouldn't be.

His cheeky actions certainly caught her attention though - just 2 years later, they were married. The couple now has four daughters, and Damon continues to revel in telling people how he had experienced the cliché of spotting someone across a crowded room and falling instantly in love. Awwwww!

11. Aaron Paul and Lauren Parsekian

The actor best known for his roles in Breaking Bad and Need for Speed met his now-wife at California music festival Coachella. The world-famous festival, which is a gold standard for festivals around the globe, playing host to the hottest acts, is a truly otherworldly place. The bright lights and frivolous festival atmosphere must have got the couple in high spirits when they first met there in 2010.

One year later, when the festival rolled around again, the two were reunited for another summer of music and love and they shared an intimate moment on the festival's iconic Ferris wheel – kissing as it arched in the sky, the festival's twinkling lights glowing below them. Guys and girls, dust off your flower crowns, grab your neon whistles, and get dancing in a field – it’s clearly the best way to meet your future celeb

Guys and girls, dust off your flower crowns, grab your sunglasses and a tent, and get dancing in a field – even if you don't meet your future celeb bae, you'll have fun doing it!

10. Eddie Redmayne and Hannah Bagshawe

The Oscar-winning actor from the United Kingdom is a huge name in Hollywood right now. Famed for his charm and good looks, he met his now-wife under slightly embarrassing circumstances, he admits in interviews. In his days at all-boys boarding school Eton College, in England, Redmayne volunteered to be part of a charity fashion show at a neighbouring all-girls’ boarding school which his now-wife Hannah Bagshawe attended.

Strutting down the catwalk totally topless, he recalls that he had a “freckled and pasty body”, and was followed by the “best-looking boy in the school", so the girls watching didn’t pay him too much attention.

During the after-party for the show, his eyes met Bagshawe's, and they became instant friends, laughing at the circumstances under which they were meeting. The couple didn't go on their official first date (which casually took place in Florence, Italy, by the way) for another 12 years! The rest is history.

Volunteer work for charity. That’s the way forwards folks.

9. Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Justin Mikita

For all the members of the #fitfam, this one’s for you. Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson first met his lawyer husband Justin Mikita at the gym.

The couple like to stay pretty private about their relationship - they were married in a private ceremony in Manhattan with only close friends and family on the guest list – so we can only speculate on the exact circumstances of their meeting, but it certainly gives the rest of us yet another reason to start going to the gym… It’s hot to be healthy!

8. Scarlett Johansson and Romain Dauriac

These two lovebirds met after getting inked by the same tattoo artist. Scarjo got a horseshoe tattoo with the words “Lucky You” on her ribcage from French tattoo artist Fuzi Uvtpk. He had previously tattooed one that read “Lost Illusions” on Dauriac.

The tattoo artist linked the two, and he’s clearly as talented a matchmaker as he is a tattoo artist, as after only 10 months of dating, the pair got hitched! Art connects us all, and in this case, the artist himself played Cupid, creating a connection that has lasted.

Now you just need to find out your celebrity crush’s tattoo artist, and get yourself booked in for an appointment. It totally works like that, right?

7. Lisa Kudrow and Michel Stern

The circumstances under which the Friends star met her husband were like something straight out of the hit sitcom that shot her to fame - when he first entered her life, it was through his romantic relationship with one of her best friends.

In spite of her falling for him the instant they met, Kudrow really lived up to her big-hearted on-screen reputation, knowing she couldn't say anything because she didn't want to hurt her friend. As such, it was only after six years, when the pair met at a birthday party, that they started a relationship. The couple has been together ever since - so it was certainly worth the wait!

6. Tina Fey and Jeff Richmond

The comedic genius behind so many hilarious movies and TV shows fell in love with her hubby after he took her on a date to Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry.

While a museum date may not scream Emmy Award-winning comedy, Richmond’s classy and intellectual first date idea clearly caught Fey’s attention. After a further seven years of dating, the two were wedded in a Greek Orthodox ceremony. Intelligence is sexy – stay in school kids! ?

5. Julia Roberts and Danny Moder

One sure-fire way to rub shoulders with the Hollywood elite is to be part of the team that creates the movies - producers, runners, and cameramen spend their working lives surrounded by actors and actresses.

Granted, the majority of the time, being behind the camera means that you don’t really get to interact with the stars directly, but in the case of Academy Award winner Julia Roberts, something about cameraman Danny Moder caught her attention anyway.

Despite being married at the time of shooting The Mexican, a movie Moder was part of the film crew for, the two hit it off during the filming of the movie, and they now have three children together!

4. Meryl Streep and Don Gummer

Meryl Streep met her sculptor husband when she stayed in his apartment as he was out of the country for a short period of time. Her brother was good friends with Don Gummer, and he allowed her to crash there until he was back from his trip.

When Gummer returned a few days early, he was pleasantly surprised by Meryl’s presence in his apartment, and the two quickly fell in love. They’ve been together ever since and are inseparable at the events they attend with one another. The couple has four children together.

3. Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth

Witherspoon met her husband at a party after his drunk friend made a fool of himself in front of her, vying for her attention. Having kept sober for the night, Jim Toth stepped in to rescue her from his intoxicated friend and clearly, his act of chivalry left a lasting impression on the actress - the two are now happily married!

If you happen to get an invite to a party where you know some celebs will be in attendance, you’d probably be best off keeping your cool, and taking it easy on the cocktails – or at least speaking up if you see your friends getting into a tricky situation.

2. Vince Vaughn and Kyla Weber

The comedic actor met his Canadian real estate agent wife when his movie producer friend introduced him to Weber at a wedding. The loved-up and romantic atmosphere clearly helped guide Cupid’s arrow as the couple quickly hit it off and fell deeply, madly, truly for each other. They now have two children together.

When your actions come from a place of love, something magic happens!

1. Paul Rudd and Julie Yaeger

90s heartthrob, Paul Rudd, is another celeb that met his beau on the job! After the success of Clueless in his early career, he was advised to get a publicist. Arriving at Yaeger’s office in New York City with his arms full of luggage, straight from the plane, the publicist helped him out with running some errands.

Just a couple of days later, he asked her to take him out to lunch as he didn’t know where in the city was good, and the relationship blossomed from there. Good local knowledge and good local food is a sure-fire way to anyone’s heart – as good an excuse as any to treat yo’self at that restaurant, y'know just in case Bieber asks you where's a good eating spot.

So there you have it, some pretty solid evidence that the age of the celebrity power couple is over! There's hope for all of us who want that celeb lifestyle, we just have to hope we find ourselves under some insanely lucky circumstances!
