6 Documentaries On Netflix Canada That Are Just As Messed Up As The FYRE Festival Documentary

FYRE: The Greatest That Never Happened came out on Netflix on January 18th.

If you haven't heard about or seen the documentary FYRE: The Greatest That Never Happened, then what are you doing? The FYRE Festival documentary has been blowing up on social media, as it was one of the greatest scams of all time. Tickets to this festival sold out in under 2 days, that's how cool it looked. But when people got there... it was a totally different story. From the cheapest tents around to only being given cheese on bread for a meal, people soon realized this was a total scam.

While there are a ton of f*cked up documentaries on Netflix Canada, this one takes the cake. A ton of famous models such as Kendall Jenner and Hailey Baldwin promoted this 'festival', only to realize they were scammed as well. However, if you're looking for something other than the FYRE Festival documentary because you've already seen it, then I've got you covered.

Here are 6 documentaries on Netflix Canada that are just as or even more messed up:

Abducted in Plain Sight

I'm not even slightly kidding when I say this is one of the most twisted, messed up documentaries I've ever seen. And I've see a lot. Abducted in Plain Sight is about a family who meets a man named Robert "B" Berchtold. Robert really does manipulate this family into doing whatever he wants, but they have no idea they're being manipulated. So much so that when he kidnaps their daughter, they don't call the police. Twice.

I personally am still thinking about this documentary, as it's one you really can't wrap your head ahead. It happened in the 1970s, and there are real life interviews with the family involved. And what they have to say and what they had to overcome is truly amazing.

Captive for 18 Years: The Jaycee Lee Story

This kidnapping will go down in history as one of the most messed up. Captive for 18 Years; The Jaycee Lee Story is about Jaycee Lee Dugard and what her 18 years of captivity were like. On a normal day, Jaycee was walking to her school when she was kidnapped by a man and a woman. Little did she know she would not see her family for 18 years after that moment.

This documentary shows what her life was life while in captivity, as well as the certain clues and details that the police missed even after raiding the kidnappers house time and time again. If you're looking for a really heartbreaking story, then I guess this would be it.

The Staircase

The Staircase, which is a docu-series, follows a man named Michael Peterson as he is accused of killing his wife. Can you guess how? If you guessed on the staircase, then you are correct. While you will probably go back and fourth on if Michael is guilty or not, there are subtle clues everywhere that may lead you to one specific answer.

The Staircase is a truly messed up story that takes a ton of twists and turns. You find out a lot about Michael personally, and that a friend of his actually fell down the stairs the exact same way. Hm, not suspicious at all!

Evil Genius

If you want to watch a documentary that will work your brain, then you need to watch Evil Genius. I remember not really being able to sleep after this one, that's how f*cked up it is. Evil Genius is a true-crime docu-series that is based on a bank robbery, and it ends up being a massive case. The robber had a bomb wrapped around his neck, and the case really went downhill from there.

But the best part of this story is all of the twists and turns. You think you have who is the mastermind behind all this figured out, and then it all changes. There are only 4 episodes in Evil Genius, so it's great to watch if you're short on time. But don't worry, but because it's shorter does not mean it's not good.

Casting JonBenet

The death of JonBenet Ramsey was one of the most talked about deaths of all time. So of course, Netflix Canada had to make a documentary on it! Casting JonBenet is about people in JonBenet's hometown playing a specific role and giving their insight into what happened to her. If you're not familiar with this case, then buckle up.

In 1996, JonBenet Ramsey was found dead on Christmas Day. 23 years later, there are still no suspects even though people are convinced one of her parents or brother did it. While we may not ever have answers, the beauty pagent queen will forever live on.

I Am Jane Doe

This documentary is not for the faint of heart, as it's about a very sensitive topic. I Am Jane Doe is about several girls in America getting forced into becoming sex slaves after they found an advertisement in the newspaper. These girls show their brave stories, as they try to deal with what happened.

The company behind all of this are being sued by the children, as they make a ton of money off of trading them for sex. It's really a story that makes you feel uneasy, after seeing how easy it is to get forced into something like this.
