For years now, we've all been obsessed with Netflix's sci-fi thriller Black Mirror. Maybe it's because the show constantly has you on the edge of your seat with its mind-boggling concepts, or maybe it's because a lot of the scenarios in the show are actually freakishly relatable. Whatever the case may be, one thing's for sure - we're hooked. If you've finished binging the latest season, and are looking for something new to watch, here are six shows on Netflix Canada that are just as intense as Black Mirror:

In Maniac, we follow Owen (played by Jonah Hill), the black sheep of his family who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia. After losing his job, he enrolls in a drug trial as a last-ditch effort to save his mental health. Along the way, he meets Annie (played by Emma Stone), who also enrolls in the trial. As with most trials, there are some risks to be considered, and when things don't go as planned, those risks can get ugly, and fast.

Russian Doll

Considering Russian Dollfeatures a ton of Orange is the New Black stars, it's safe to say you can expect it to be awesome. The show stars Natasha Lyonne, who plays the role of Nadia. Nadia is celebrating her birthday with some of her closest friends, but for some absurd reason, she can't make it through the night without dying and re-living the same night over and over. Her friends think she's going crazy, and she's starting to believe it too - until she meets Alan, who's found himself in the same predicament.

Stranger Things

If you have yet to watch Stranger Things, take this as a sign that it's time to hop on the bandwagon. The show is all about the mystery of a vanished young boy in a small, creepy town, and a group of young kids who are set on solving it. The third season is coming in July, so you'll definitely want to catch up before then!

Altered Carbon

If the twisted storyline is what drew you to Black Mirror, then you'll love Altered Carbonjust as much. The show is about the richest man on Earth, who was recently murdered. After being reincarnated, he hires a prisoner who's spent the last 250 years on ice to solve the case in return for freedom - the stakes have never been higher, and he's willing to do whatever it takes for another shot at life.


If murder mysteries are your thing, Slasheris the show for you. The show is about a woman who makes a return to her hometown, where her parents were once brutally murdered. Upon her return, a new spree of killings begins, and the town becomes more shaken up than ever before.

Love, Death + Robots

Love, Death + Robots is one of Netflix's newest originals, and people have even gone so far as to call it the new Black Mirror. Each episode ranges between 6 - 18 minutes, most of them are animated, and although they're brief, they tell some insane and compelling stories in a very short amount of time. The series is like nothing Netflix has ever done before.
