In the wake of the Danforth shooting in Toronto a couple weeks ago, there’s been an increase in scrutiny over gun violence in Canada.

And today that scrutiny is getting even tighter with the news that someone got into a suspected road rage incident with a tourist and shot them in the head.

And they’re still on the run, here’s what we know happened.

A 60-year-old German tourist was driving on an Alberta highway yesterday with his wife and children when their car was involved in a single vehicle crash.

The car travelled a long distance off the highway before hitting a tree, according to police.

When police arrived they found the driver with a gunshot wound to his head from a bullet that they say entered in the driver’s side window.

The victim was airlifted to hospital, the rest of his family suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Police have no specific suspect named in the incident and no one has been arrested right now. They say that road rage is being looked at as a possible motive.

A small black car driven by a white male was seen near the tourist’s car at the time of the incident.

The man driving the car may have had long dark hair, say police.

The incident took place on Highway 1A near Morley, Alta.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call the Cochrane RCMP at 1-403-851-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
