Air Canada Named One Of The Worst Airlines In The World For Flight Delays In New Ranking

A popular airline in Canada has made it onto a new ranking, but it's not exactly a good thing. Air Canada was ranked among the worst airlines in the world, based on flight delays. Whether you have had a good experience with this airline or not, this ranking focuses on examining airline companies across the world and their ability to create or eliminate delays while flying.

Claim Compass, an online platform that helps you file claims with an airline, has ranked 150 airlines from across the world. The ranking is based on the carriers' on-time performance with flights.

This research revealed that in 2018, 24.3% of all flights were delayed by 15 minutes or more! That can be a lot of added stress to travellers. They also found that the average time of delay per flight reached 47 minutes.

For their rankings, two popular Canadian airlines were reviewed. WestJet came in near the top of the list. Sitting at number eight, WestJet received a ranking of 6.5 out of 10. To put this score into perspective, South African Airways came in at number one and received a 7.4 out of 10.

Another popular Canadian airline, however, did not receive such a high review. In fact, Air Canada was ranked as one of the worst airlines in 2018 for delays.

"Almost a third of Air Canada’s flights reach their destination with a delay of at least 15 minutes, making the Canadian airline one of the worst performers in terms of punctuality," says Claim Compass on their website. "Average delays are close to 52 minutes. This poor on-time performance since the beginning of January 2018 is reflected in the rating of 2 out of 10."

Coming in at dead last on the list was Tunisair with an impressively low score of .1 out of 10.

In order to conduct their research, Claim Compass reached out to over 100,000 passengers to help them file claims for their flight delays. Based on the data received, they compared the flight and claim performances of 135 of the world's largest airlines to create a comprehensive and detailed rating.

The definitive top 10 list is as follows:
