Alberta Is In For -20 C "Highs" During Next Week's Brutal Cold Snap
Alberta has been in the news a lot this winter for having what feels like impossibly cold weather. While we wish we could give you different news, we are back with another frigid Alberta winter weather report. According to current forecasts, -20 C highs are what Calgary and Edmonton have to look forward to during the approaching Alberta cold dome.
A cold dome is defined as a "mass of cold air, with an overall shape like that of an inverted saucer, that forms over areas.” Which is exactly what Alberta can prepare for starting this weekend.
The weather event will usher in temperatures as low as -45 C in some places. These lows will vary by region, but there's no question that it's going to be negative double-digits across the board.
Alberta was the coldest place on Earth back in November, so needless to say, it's been a rough few months.
According to The Weather Network, Edmonton and Calgary are in for highs of -20 C or colder for several days in a row. The extreme frigid weather will bear down on Alberta for about a week.
According to Global News meteorologist Jesse Beyer, an “Arctic outbreak is looking more and more likely” in the Canadian west.
Beyer states that temperatures in the -30s are already present in the northern regions of Alberta.
