Stunning Alberta Day Hike Leads You To A Secret Turquoise Lake Surrounded By Mountains

Alberta's lakes are truly something special. From the colour to the surroundings, it's hard to believe they're real. Chephren Lake is yet another gorgeous turquoise beauty in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. If you're writing up a list of Alberta hikes you need to check out, this one should be right at the top.

The lake is located at the entrance of the Waterfowl Lakes Campground.

You can access the trail from Highway 93 North. All in all, it'll take you just over two and a half hours to drive to the trailhead from downtown Calgary.

Because it's drivable from Calgary and even more so from Canmore or Banff, it's ideal for a day hike. Whether you want to get out of the city for a bit or you want to set up camp for a few days, this trail is totally worth the trip.

The hike is estimated by Parks Canada to be just over 3.5-kilometres one-way.

So it should take you between three and four hours to complete a round-trip hike, as per Parks Canada.

Considering what's waiting for you at the end, it's entirely worth the hike.

The most mind-blowing thing about the lake is its colour. It's sometimes turquoise and sometimes emerald, depending on the lighting and time of year.

And if you're lucky, you might even be able to catch a glimpse of a perfect reflection so you can see the mountains twice.

Some notable mountains that surround the lake include Howse Peak and Mount Chephren.

Parks Canada also noted that the hike is known to be a bit muddy, so be sure to get dressed for the occasion.

There are a lot of tree roots along the way as well, so do watch your step.

The trail is good for all levels and any time of year.

If you're a lover of turquoise-coloured lakes in the region, then this trail and destination have to be the next on your bucket list.

Alberta has no shortage of one-of-a-kind nature scenes and this hike brings you right up close to one.
