An incident took place in Alberta on the morning of Wednesday, May 6, that resulted in several gunshots. According to Alberta RCMP officers, a 27-year-old male gunman was shot by law enforcement after police were called to the scene of the crime for a firearm complaint. During the call, an RCMP officer and a bystander were shot and injured.

According to a police report posted online, at around 8:15 a.m. on the morning of Wednesday, May 6, Blackfalds RCMP responded to a firearms complaint at a residence in the city.
When police arrived, shots were fired outside of the home towards the RCMP vehicles.
During the altercation, an adult female, unrelated to the incident, was hit by one of the gunshots. The female was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
An update on her status has not been released.
Following the injury, RCMP was able to contain the area however, the male that was involved fled in a vehicle and travelled northbound on the QEII highway.
Police officials were able to deploy a tire deflation device and a car chase ensued, during which the vehicle travelled north in the southbound lane.

After the suspect's car came to a halt, a confrontation began between RCMP officers and the male that resulted in the death of the 27-year-old.
During the incident, an officer suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Following the incident, an investigation has been launched by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT).
This team will be investigating the circumstances surrounding "the officer involved shooting" and the actions that were taken.
A Leduc resident spoke with CTV News about the scene, saying that he was able to hear a helicopter outside his home.
When he went outside, he saw RCMP vehicles and heard several gunshots. He estimates that he heard six shots, although he is unsure if the shots came from officers or the suspect.
He also noted that he saw someone receiving CPR.
According to the Town of Blackfalds Facebook page, traffic during the incident was diverted. At the time, anyone that was travelling southbound on QEII was directed to go to Highway 39 and anyone travelling northbound was told to take the Glen Park Road.
The town also told residents that were in the area to stay inside, lock their doors, and head to their basements until police said otherwise.
Police say there is no further threat to the public.
