You Can Tour These Magical Caves In Alberta By Lantern Light After Hours This Summer

If you're looking for a unique after-dark experience to add to your summer bucket list, then this one is for you. This summer, you can check out Cave and Basin in Alberta's Banff National Park in a special after-hours tour through the darkness guided by the light of your lantern! This intimate look at the caves and the histories behind this place is a totally out-of-this-world experience.

Guiding your tour will be the ghost of David Galletly, the first caretaker of the Cave and Basin. Using lights, sounds and a fog machine, his appearance is equal parts campy and fun! You'll walk through dark tunnels and enter the shadowy cave by the light of your lantern as all of your senses are heightened in the dark. From the warmth of the natural hot springs to the strong scent of sulphur and the loud dripping of water, it's so immersive.

The Cave and Basin National Historic Site is just outside of Banff about an hour and a half drive from Calgary. While you're there, you should definitely check out the Upper Banff Hot Springs nearby just 10 minutes away.

You can go on an after-dark tour by lantern light of these caves on Saturday nights from June through to September. The first tours kick off on Saturday, June 1. There are three tours at night running at 6 PM, 7 PM and 8 PM. Admission is $10.80 per person and you'll have to register in advance.

For more info, check out the event listing from Banff & Lake Louise.
