The 25-year-old plays Charlie in the new film opposite Elle Fanning as Violet Markey and Justice Smith as Theodore Finch. Stars also include comedian Keegan-Michael Key, Luke Wilson, and Alexandra Shipp.

The 2020 screenplay is based on the 2015 novel written by Jennifer Niven.

According to Good Reads, Violet is a teenage girl dealing with the grief of losing her sister. She meets Theodore, a young boy "fascinated by death" who ends up reviving the life in her heart and brings back meaning to her grief-stricken existence. The website describes the story as "The Fault in Our Stars meets Eleanor and Park".

In the movie trailer, Charlie is seen talking to Violet about her love interest Theodore who he calls "not easy" and that he "gets into these moods sometimes".

This is Johnson's second film of the year, as IMDb notes he played Norlon in Run Sweetheart Run.

The Canadian actor has been on screen since as far back as 2003 according to IMDb. He picked up dance skills while playing West in The Next Step from 2013 to 2019. He was also Seven Carter in The Hate U Give, and in 2012, he appeared on an episode of Rookie Blue and Degrassi: The Next Generation.

In addition to his love of dancing, on Instagram, he shares an interest in basketball and modelling and has shouted out his hometown Toronto a few times. In August 2018, he was on a billboard for Adidas outside of the Toronto Eaton Centre.

He even appeared in Vogue's March 2019 issue alongside Kendall Jenner, Joe Keery, and Charlotte Lawrence.
