The Rose family wouldn't be complete without their hilarious and slightly clueless youngest child, Alexis. Her catty relationship with her older brother is really what brought to life the iconic phrase, "ew, David!" The part came in perfect timing too because Annie Murphy’s Schitt’s Creek role was booked right after her house burnt down and it changed her life.
The 33-year-old was born and raised in Ottawa to two parents and is actually an only child though she plays a naggy younger sister exceptionally well.
Staying true to her Canadian roots, she attended Queen's University in Kingston for one year and then transferred to Concordia University in Montreal to pursue theatre acting.
Murphy is married to Menno Versteeg, a fellow Ottawa born member of the indie band called Hollerado.
According to Newsday, the apartment they lived in together burned down while the two were away at her parents' cottage for the weekend. She told them, "'We were like most people, thinking, oh, it'll never happen to me. I should say at the outset — no one was hurt, which is the most important thing. But it was a huge learning experience — in how lucky we are to have somewhere to go.'"
The heartbreaking incident happened just before her audition for the CBC sitcom. She continued telling Newsday, "it was bad. My house had burned down, we had no money, I hadn't booked a job in two years. So Schitt’s Creek really couldn’t have come at a better time."
Starting from scratch is pretty similar to the Rose family who lost everything they had in the first episode of the series. Luckily, her leading role helped the actress get back on her feet.
Before playing Alexis, the Canadian actress Played Morgan on The Plateaus in 2015. Her last gig before that was in a 2012 episode of Rookie Blue as Angela Kehoe. Her very first on-screen role was in The Business playing a lawyer in one episode.
You can catch Murphy on the Schitt's Creek season six premiere on January 7.
