What do you get when you cross drinks, live music, IMAX movies, and science? Usually, you'd get nothing. But thanks to Fernbank Museum's after-hours event, you get the most fascinating Friday evening.
Fernbank After Dark is a 21+ event that takes place on the second Friday of each month. The adult science night gives you a chance to explore the museum without the hustle and bustle of the giant crowds. Fernbank officially closes at 5 p.m. and they reopen their doors from 7 p.m. for event goers.
Science instantaneously becomes more fun with a drink in your hand, which is why you'll get to choose from a list of wines, beers, ciders, and cocktails ranging from $6 to $10.
Nothing pairs better with cocktails than tapas, and you'll encounter a rather impressive list of small plates, featuring flatbreads, salads, lobster rolls, empanadas and more. These tasty bites will cost you $7 to $12, and $12 to $20 for shareable plates.
After you've filled up on food and drinks (and perhaps taken a drink to-go), you can take part in hands-on activities and demonstrations that are exclusive to Fernbank After Dark. Each event day is themed, so the activities are crafted to fit one of many different science topics.
June's theme is "The Great Outdoors," so prepare to spend some time outside in the Big Bugs exhibit. The best part is that the giant bug sculptures you'll see are made of recycled pieces - yasss sustainability.
If this Friday, June 14, is too last minute for you, you can catch the next themed event, "H2-Oh!," on July 12. You'll get the chance to explore what lays underneath the surface of different bodies of water. There will even be live animal encounters.
On top of everything you'll be able to do, the icing on the cake is that each ticket includes admission to a brief movie shown on the big screen. Most showings are in 3D, so you're in for a super special, scientific treat.
Most event tickets sell out, so get yours today.
