Georgia Aquarium Is Opening The Whale Shark Tank For SCUBA Divers In May

When you think of getting the opportunity to SCUBA dive to see whale sharks, you might assume that you have to go to some tropical location halfway across the world. However, if you live in the Atlanta area, you're in luck. You can actually go SCUBA diving at Georgia Aquarium.

That's because the Georgia Aquarium has a Journey with Gentle Giants program, which gives whale lovers the opportunity to go SCUBA diving with whale sharks and thousands of other sea creatures, including manta rays, in the Ocean Voyager exhibit.

While there are places where you can do this in the wild, this is the only opportunity in the world where you're absolutely guaranteed to swim with these sharks. Plus, you don't have to worry about the environmental impact, because you'll be in a closed, controlled environment.

The swim program occurs daily at 4:30 p.m. and lasts for two and a half hours. The dive program is also daily at 3:00 p.m. If you're more of a weekender, you can jump in at 11 a.m.*

Keep in mind that you have to be SCUBA-certified to participate in the Journey with Gentle Giants dive, so if you haven't gotten your certification yet, you should do that before booking.

You'll be working with trainers the whole time, so it will be as safe as possible. Once you're in the water, you'll get to spend 30 minutes swimming around and meeting the animals.

The cost for this super cool swimming experience is $189.95 for members and $233.95 for non-members. You can purchase your tickets online today at the Georgia Aquarium website.
