When you picture a drive-in theatre, your mind probably shifts to a cozy couple snuggling up in a truck bed, surrounded by the '80s vintage vibes that we all know and love (even if you weren't here to live it). Fast forward to present and those simple but perfect date nights are no longer easily attainable. Luckily, we have an '80s drive-in theatre right here in Atlanta, and it's special because it's the only one in the city.
The retro Starlight Six Drive-in Theatre will take you straight back to the days of The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles and make all your Molly-Ringwald-esque teenage dreams come true. Starlight, located on Moreland Avenue, opened in 1949 and has been Atlanta's last standing drive-in theatre since 1998. Lucky for us, it plays movies that are actually out in theatres as opposed to many of its counterparts that show older classics. Classics are great, but this has totally changed the first-run movie game. AMC cushioned recliners, step aside.
There is plenty of space to park your car, open up the trunk and cuddle up with your boo (or your besties) while you munch on popcorn and watch modern movies - '80s-style. Bring a plethora of pillows and blankets for an insurmountably comfy movie night that will make you feel like you're at home.
You definitely won't go hungry because they have a snack bar with classic movie treats, but also serve delicious Mexican food so it's a one-stop shop for dinner and a movie.
Movies are shown from four screens with a top-notch digital projection system that delivers extremely high quality picture and sound. Sound plays through an FM radio transmitter so you can listen on your car radio, or bring a portable speaker to save your car battery.
And guess what? There's no catch, tickets are only $9 per person which is nearly half the price of a movie nowadays.
You can also browse the flea market on the weekends and make a whole day of shopping, snacking and snuggling with your besties. Make sure to get there early because spaces are first come, first serve!
We advise that you read through Starlight's website on how to enjoy your experience without hassle. Searching for more cool date night spots with your boo? Look no further than this list of places in Georgia to take your S/O this month.
