This "Party Lake" Only Two Hours Outside Of Atlanta Is The Ultimate Roadtrip Destination

While the temperatures are dropping in other states, summer is still alive and sunny in the South and we're going to live it up (at least until late November). We love the Georgia sun, but sometimes it's nice to get out of town and see what other states are up to for their summer time fun. Lake Martin is just the roadtrip destination from Atlanta that will definitely create some sunshine memories.

Lake Martin in Alabama on the Tallapoosa River is a man-made, 41,150-acre gem that Georgians really need to take advantage of. The lake is southwest of Atlanta so all you need to do is pack the snacks in the trunk and put on a great playlist and you're already there. The lake is composted of 39 undeveloped islands with crazy names like "Cheeseburger" and "Boogie" so you these people like to have fun.

As a "party lake" this locale also has a 60-foot cliff, known as "The Rock," that the true thrill seekers can be seen diving and jumping from. If you head to this lake, you're bound to make new Bama friends who know how to party.

If you want to check out the land activites, there's even more awesome spots on land. The Amphitheater (The Amp) hosts fun festivals and concerts on the lawn on a monthly basis. With Lake Martin being one of the largest man-made lakes in the country, you're bound to find something to enjoy from the water skiiing, firework shows, fishing tournaments and more.

If you're looking for food, Kowaliga is the crowd fave. They have the best burgers, smoked wings and po'boys around so you'll have to stop there while you party your weekend away. While it may not be better than the Philly cheesesteaks in Atlanta, you should still get a taste of Alabama eats. If you're not exactly looking to leave the state, there's some beautiful wetlands to venture to for some wide open views in Georgia.
