Chili cook-offs are taken extremely seriously in the Lone Star State and for good reason. With chili being one of the more popular dishes in Texas, there are plenty of people who now think they make the best version of the dish. This March, a chili cook-off near Austin will determine who serves the best chili in the area and possibly the entire state!
Luckenbach's 9th Annual Mud Dauber Festival and Chili Cook-Off falls on Saturday, March 21, this year, which is just a couple of months away.
The festival and chili cook-off will last from 12 to 6 p.m. and they've already released a precise schedule for the day.
In past years they've kept the theme of "Wild West" very much alive, and we can only assume this year will be no different.
Tickets for the event are $15 for general admission and $20 if you'd like to register your chili team.
They're still allowing teams to register, so if you're interested then be sure to secure your spot ASAP!
Chili teams can be up to four people and they must provide at least three gallons of chili for the public to taste.
That's a lot of chili, but hey, they expect a lot of people to be coming out!
As for those who want to enjoy the fest as chili tasters, gates will open at 11 a.m. and the Hot Texas Swing Band will begin performing at 12 p.m.
Chili judging for first, second and third place will begin shortly after at 1 p.m. and the public will be able to begin tasting them as well.
Awards will be announced at 3:45 p.m. and more performers will come on afterward to ensure everyone has a reason to celebrate, even those who don't win any awards.
Everyone's a winner, especially when it comes to a chili recipe.
If this event sounds like something you'd enjoy, Fredericksburg is having a chili and lobster festival next month with a little less competition involved.
We're all foodies deep down, after all.
