As the coronavirus spreads throughout the U.S., it's easier than ever to get caught up in all of the negative news. What's important to remember, however, is that there are good people in this world who are looking out for others each and every day, especially those who feel they are in greater danger than most. Recently, a mom and her daughters concerned about COVID-19 in Austin offered assistance to their neighbors via email, and the result is a particularly heartwarming story.
Shruti Babu and her two daughters, Ava and Gia Babu, reside in Austin, Texas, a city that is feeling the effects of panic caused by recent events.
Shruti told Narcity that she and her family have lived on the same street in ATX for 11 years. Being in the same place for that long makes it easy to become close to your neighbors, which is exactly what happened to her.
Shruti took to Instagram this week to share an incredible deed she and her daughters did, and it's sweet enough to make just about anyone smile.
Shruti shared with us at Narcity that she wrote a mass email to all of her neighbors that read "Neighbors everyone okay? During this time let's all take care of each other. If any of you need anything I'm here to help :)"
One response stood out from all others.
She explained that a 78-year-old-woman who lives alone gave a response that couldn't be ignored.
"Shruti, thank you for your kindness! I feel so lucky to have you as my neighbor. Does anybody know which stores have disinfecting wipes and/or hand sanitizers? Not trying to hoard - just want to buy ONE of each!" read the woman's email.
Hoarding has been a problem ever since the panic over COVID-19 began, and this is just one example of many who have been affected by it.
After getting that response from her elderly neighbor, Shruti knew what she had to do next.
"I am immunocompromised so when I realized it’s the elderly and I in this category of people that need to be careful my heart went out to them," she informed Narcity.
Shruti and her daughters Ava and Gia then made a delivery to their neighbor and provided exactly what she had asked for!
When asked what's next for her and her daughters, Shruti told us "We absolutely plan to do more deliveries, FaceTime our friends, family, and elderly neighbors who live alone, if we are allowed to we will also write letters and make pictures for patients in nursing homes who aren’t allowed visitors."
