There’s A ‘’Dog Island’' Hidden Near Austin And You Can Visit It For Free

Finding a good dog park is a perennial quest — and a bit of a Goldilocks dilemma. It can’t be too small or too big; prettiness (and cleanliness) is king; the people should be just as friendly as the pups; and uniqueness is a plus.

That’s where Red Bud Isle Park comes in with its just-right surrounds that check all the right boxes. It’s a lakefront, off-leash dog island in the Texas Hill Country with 13 acres of recreational space that’s basically a paradise for doggies (and you) — and it’s only about 15 minutes from downtown Austin. Perfect.

At Red Bud Isle, there’s a well-maintained walking loop, forested areas for hiking zones or playing fetch, doggie bags for easy clean-up — and you’ll likely never see the trace of any kind of trash. But, the real selling point here is the surrounding water from Town Lake that makes for the island-like locale and serves as a natural fence — or prime swimming zones for water-minded dogs.

Oh, and admission to the park is free and open to the public (and all of man’s best friends). You can find this place at 3401 Redbud Trail.

Looks like you and Fido’s weekend plans just got made. And, hey, if you don’t have a furry friend, don’t dismay. You’re still allowed to venture to Red Bud Isle. In fact, we highly recommend that you do — especially if you’re craving some puppy loving. This place has you covered.
