As Texans, we've all enjoyed a meal from Torchy's Tacos once or twice. Now that they have a number of locations across the state, finding one near you is easier than ever. And on that note, we're bidding farewell to the OG Torchy's Tacos in Austin, which is closing after years and years of operation next week.
According to Eater Austin, Torchy's Tacos is closing it's South First restaurant on Tuesday, October 22. The location has seen many faces, including Barack Obama's back in 2006 during SXSW. While many are sad to see it go, the South First location is closing for good reason. The owners of the chain are hoping to make every Torchy's in Austin more accessible to the public, which is big news for anything in ATX.
Torchy's Tacos has 70 locations across states in the Southern U.S., with Austin being home to a whopping 17 of them. So while we may be losing one, it'll hardly feel as though the delicious taco joint is hard to come by. Not to mention, San Antonio is getting their newest location tomorrow, and it's just a short drive for you Austinites!
Torchy's Tacos Sonterra is having their grand opening tomorrow, but the celebrations began yesterday at their exclusive party. If you're near SA, be sure to stop by their newest location for some free eats and drinks. Our hearts may be hurting for the South First Torchy's, but that doesn't mean our bellies aren't aching for some delicious chips and queso.
It's sad to see where it all started (aside from the food truck, of course) be ripped away. Though, the owners' hearts are in the right place and will surely be opening more Torchy's in Austin soon. We can't wait to see just how big the chain can get!
