Barack Obama & Justin Trudeau’s Bromance Is Still Going Strong Post-Election

Former U.S. President Barack Obama has made it clear that him and Justin Trudeau are still good pals. While at an event in Halifax on Wednesday, he highlighted his admiration for the Canadian Prime Minister. After he described the two of them as “similar,” it looks like Barack Obama and Justin Trudeau’s bromance is still going strong after the election.

The Nova Scotia event was part of his ongoing tour, where he held a sold-out question-and-answer session at the Scotiabank Centre.

Despite not having any time to catch up with his old pal Justin Trudeau during his brief trip up North, the now-public speaker made sure that he sent a few sweet compliments the Prime Minister’s way during the event.

Speaking about some of the greatest challenges that faced Canada-U.S. relations, Obama mentioned previous Conservative leader, Stephen Harper.

“We were able to do good work with Stephen Harper’s government on a range of issues, and on some we disagreed — and it was fine,” he said.

He went on to clarify that he was definitely more similar to Trudeau when it came to politics. “My own politics are obviously much closer to Justin’s,” he explained.

It's not just our current Prime Minister that he sees similarities with. During his chat with the audience in Halifax, Obama also drew attention to the “strong alignment” between U.S. and Canadian values.

“Let’s face it …” he joked, “When you guys show up in the U.S., we can’t tell you’re Canadian half the time. You’re infiltrating us, and we don’t know it!”

This comes just weeks after Obama formally endorsed Justin Trudeau for Prime Minister, calling the Liberal leader, “A hard-working, effective leader who takes on big issues like climate change.”

He noted, "I was proud to work with Justin Trudeau," and added, "I hope our neighbours to the north support him for another term."

During the summer, the pair also went on a romantic man-date to an Ottawa brewery, and the internet totally lost its mind.

Sadly, Trudeau doesn’t appear to have any plans to meet up with his bestie this week, as his calendar is full of meetings with Andrew Scheer, Scott Moe, and Jagmeet Singh.

While there’s no word on when the two will next get together, it’s a relief to many that their bromance is still going strong for the time being!
