You Can Now Apply For BC's $1,000 COVID-19 Relief But Only If You're Approved For CERB

There have already been over 16,000 applications.

If you're a B.C. resident who qualifies for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB), you're about to get $1000 richer. The B.C. government understands that there has been a whole lot of financial strain in the province lately and that is why they have announced that residents can now apply for the B.C. Emergency Benefit for Workers. This application can be easily filled out online and should you be eligible, you will receive a one-time, tax-free payment of $1,000.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, government officials have been working hard to provide the public with information.

During the latest update held on the morning of Friday, May 1, Finance Minister Carole James provided the public with information about emergency benefits and other financial assistance options.

While most people have already applied and are collecting benefits from EI or CERB, there is another program in place for people who have found themselves jobless during this time.

According to James, the Emergency Benefit for Workers has been put in place to provide additional support.

Applications for this one-time, tax-free payment of $1,000 can now be completed online.

In order to be eligible, people must have been a resident of B.C. on March 15, 2020, and met all eligibility requirements for CERB.

You also muchn't be receiving provincial income assistance or disability assistance in order to collect this payment.

James stated that the application process "is simple and very straight forward.”

All you need to do to apply is visit the B.C. Government website.

Just be sure to have your social insurance number and direct deposit information ready to go.

“It will provide significant help to people whose jobs and incomes have been impacted by COVID-19,” said James.

James noted that if you applied for EI because of COVID-19 after Sunday, March 15, the federal government is automatically reviewing your application through CERB.

If you are interested in this benefit program, you are not alone.

As of 9 a.m. on Friday, May 1, James stated that there was already a ton of traffic to the online applicant portal and in the first 45 minutes it received around 16,389 applications.
