The sights are breathtaking, whether you’re wandering the crevices between towering rock walls, or taking in the panoramic views of the Coosa River Valley and Weiss Lake from atop Lookout Mountain.
With trails and bouldering spots for all skill and fitness levels, the rock park became a popular place for hikers, climbers, and campers in the 1970s.
In 2014, it became a managed park by the Cherokee County Park Board, cleaning up graffiti and trash that had once littered the area.
Today, nature enthusiasts of all kinds can come and admire the park's living history. The famous rock formations and trails lie on an old route that was once used by pioneer settlers .
The site is even believed to have had religious and ceremonial importance to the Native American tribes that once inhabited the area.
About 220 acres were purchased from timber company George Kraft by the Nature Conservancy to add to the park and make it a designated public area.
Those added acres encompassed massive natural sandstone formations that are popular with climbers that visit today.
The park has even had a modern claim to fame with some scenes from Failure to Launch having been filmed there.
