It's Christmas Year-Round At This Hidden Underground Cave In Alabama

"Rockin' around the Christmas Tree."
Places In Alabama You Should Go Include Tumbling Rock Cave

There's a secret place in the Heart of Dixie where it's Christmas time all year round. Miles beneath the ground, you can find a giant stalagmite shaped just like a Christmas tree in John T. Dolberry Tumbling Rock Cave Preserve. The unique formation makes this rocky cavern one of the most festive places in Alabama to visit.

Tumbling Rock Cave Preserve is located in Fackler, just 2 hours and 15 minutes from Birmingham. It's one of the many incredible caves across the state.

These caverns plunge around six miles into the earth, full of winding passages and tiny tunnels, and is an ideal spot for cavers to explore.

The preserve is full of massive stalactites and stalagmites, including one that has been dubbed, the Christmas Tree.

During Christmas time, battery-powered enchanting lights can be seen wrapped around this strange formation, making it glow with holiday spirit.

Tumbling Rock is owned and maintained by the Southeastern Cave Conservancy (SCCi), a team dedicated to preserving caves like this one.

The not-for-profit corporation's push to protect these natural landmarks is why this preserve is tucked away from the public.

Even Santa can't climb down Tumbling Rock without a proper caving permit. You can request one free of charge from the SCCi website here.

Upon receiving permission to this exclusive find, you will be given a map revealing the location of the cave.

Only experienced cavers should journey to see the Christmas Tree. If you don't want to brave the cave, you can scroll through amazing photos instead.

If you do decide to visit, remember to respect the cave and do your part to help protect this incredible part of the planet and "leave no trace" that you were there.

Visit in the winter to see the colorful string lights on this strange stalagmite. You'll be rockin' around the Christmas tree any day of the year.
