The Timeline Of Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds' Relationship Shows Why They’re Meant To Be

As cringey as the term "couple goals" is, those are really the only words that describe the iconic duo that is Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively. Of all the celebrity couples out there, no two have a relationship quite like Ryan and Blake. The pair are constantly roasting one another on social media (much to the amusement of their fans), absolutely killing red carpets with the most incredible looks, and of course, starring in some of the best movies of all time, all while being awesome parents to their three children. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' relationship timeline will make you love them even more.

It feels like Blake and Ryan have been together forever, but realistically speaking, it's only been about a decade since they were first introduced to one another. If you've ever wondered how one of the greatest love stories of all time came to be, you'll definitely want to keep reading.

It all started in July of 2010 when Reynolds and Lively were cast alongside each other as the leads in the upcoming Green Lantern movie. At the time, Lively was dating her Gossip Girl co-star, Penn Badgley, and Reynolds had been married to actress Scarlett Johansson since 2008.

In September of 2010, Us Weekly confirmed that Lively and Badgley had split, although they still remained good friends. Later that year, in December, Reynolds and Johansson would also split, releasing a joint statement about their plans to divorce.

"After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we've decided to end our marriage. We entered our relationship with love and it's with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn't expected, it's certainly appreciated."

Unfortunately, Reynolds and Lively didn't run into one another's arms after their respective breakups, although they both did attend Green Lantern events together. In June of 2011, Lively was rumoured to be dating Hollywood heartthrob, Leonardo DiCaprio, although nothing was ever confirmed.

By October of 2011, the news we had all been waiting for officially broke - Lively and Reynolds had become an exclusive couple. In December of the same year, Reynolds took Lively back to his hometown of Vancouver, where she met his parents.

After the initial visit, the couple has been no stranger to Van City, and they visited once again in May of 2012 when they took a ferry ride in Nanaimo and had dinner with Reynolds' brother.

This next part took a lot of people by surprise. In September of 2012, after about a year of dating, the couple tied the knot at Mount Pleasant's Boone Hall Plantation. Photos from the ceremony were never released (which is extra sad because we all know how well Lively probably rocked her wedding gown), and only close friends and family were invited.

In May of 2014, the happy couple attended the annual Met Gala together, and unlike many of the other celebs in attendance, they skipped out on the after parties to indulge in some hot fudge sundaes.

September of 2014 had Lively talking about the possibility of kids for the first time. In an interview with Marie Claire, Lively said, "He's my best, best friend. What do you do with your best friend? You do nothing. If I could spit out a litter of kids, I would."

Clearly Lively spoke her dreams of being a mother into existence because, in October of 2014, she announced via her website that she and Reynolds were expecting their first child.

In January of 2015, UsWeekly reported that Lively had given birth to the couple's child. Although she came early, the baby arrived happy and healthy. In March, Reynolds shared that they named her James.

By the time February of 2016 rolled around, Reynolds was keeping busy with plenty of events for Deadpool. During one of them, Reynolds opened up to Entertainment Weekly about how he and Lively first got together.

"We were buddies then. I remember it was funny because for about a year after Green Lantern had come and gone and all that stuff, we were both single. We went on a double date. She was on a date with another guy, and I was on a date with another girl. That was the most awkward date [from their perspective] probably because we were just like fireworks coming across."

In May of 2015, we got our first look at baby James via Reynolds' Instagram page. In typical Reynolds fashion, he captioned the photo, "Thumb wrestling isn't always fair. Curiously, my hand is the small one."

Almost a year later, in April of 2016, UsWeekly confirmed that the family of three would be growing again, and in October of the same year, Lively and Reynolds became parents of two. Their second child, also a girl, is named Ines Reynolds.

Even with the stress of two young babies, the power couple always gushed about their love for one another. In November, Reynolds talked to GQ magazine about the moment that he knew Lively was "the one".

"We were hanging out at this little restaurant in Tribeca that's open really late, and this song came on and I was just like, 'Want to dance?'" he recalled. "No one was in there, so it was just totally empty. And it was just one of those moments where halfway through the dance, it was like, 'Oh, I think I just crossed a line.' And then I walked her home. And, uh, you know, I don't really need to go into what happened after that."

In more recent years, the couple has stayed busy parenting their two young daughters, and of course, trolling one another on Instagram. In May of 2019 though, they shocked the world once again when Lively showed up to the Detective Pikachu red carpet rocking a yellow dress, AND a serious baby bump.

Nobody knew for sure when the couple would be welcoming their third child, but it turns out Lively gave birth a whopping two months ago and managed to keep it a total secret. The couple has yet to announce the name and gender of their baby, but hopefully, we're not waiting too long.
