In Calgary, the coldest wind chills today will be as low as -45° Celcius, according to Environment Canada. We're shivering just thinking about the intensely cold forecast.

"Cold arctic air remains entrenched across much of Alberta," warns Environment Canada in their weather alert. "Wind chills between -40 and -50 will continue this morning before moderating this afternoon and then returning overnight into Wednesday".

Environment Canada is also warning locals about the potential dangers of the extremely cold weather, including the risk of frostbite. "Watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes," reads the weather alert

"Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill".

Yesterday, the cold weather prompted several schools and attractions to completely shut down. Today, it continues – several schools, buses, and ski hills are closed again in Calgary.

While certain schools have reopened, some schools have decided to close their school doors today due to the cold weather.

The following schools in Calgary are closed today:

On top of school closures, numerous school bus routes are closed in Calgary today as well. The following routes are not running today:

Even the ski hills continue to be closed today because of the cold weather. Calgary's only ski hill, Canada Olympic Park, is completely shut down today and lessons are cancelled.

Calgary police are also warning locals not to leave their cars unlocked and unattended when warming up the car in the cold weather. Several people have had their vehicles stolen already.

Unfortunately, it looks like the bitterly cold temperatures will continue until mid-week. Environment Canada says that "the cold arctic air is expected to remain through till Thursday." Stay safe out there, Calgarians! Hopefully, a Chinook will come soon to the city and rescue you from the cold weather.
