New "Ghostbusters 3" Movie Based On Original Franchise Will Be Filming In Canada This Year
New Ghostbusters 3 movie filming Calgary, Alberta and will be starting production this year in 2019.
Calling all Ghostbusters fans! Soon you may be able to spot stars from the iconic movie series on our very own Canadian home ground. The new Ghostbusters movie will be filming in Canada this year in 2019! This will mark the third film in the original series and will follow the original Ghostbusters movies that were released in the 1980s, not the 2016 female cast reboot.
Ghostbusters 3 will actually be filmed in Calgary, Alberta! The movie will start production this year in 2019, according to Global News. No production dates have officially been set yet, but it has been confirmed that it will be sometime this year. DigitalSpy reports that filming is expected to start in a few months.
Fans have been freaking out ever since the new movie was announced and the teaser trailer dropped last month in January. Although the original two films were released several years ago back in 1984 and 1989, the iconic franchise still has many beloved fans.
Check out the teaser trailer for Ghostbusters 3 below that was posted on their official Youtube channel.
Jason Reitman, who is the son of the original director of the first two movies Ivan Reitman, will take the directorial reigns for the new movie, while Ivan Reitman will still remain on board but instead serve as a producer. He told EW it was like a "passing of the torch".
The film will be set in the original Ghostbusters universe and will be completely different from the all-female reboot that was released in 2016 and directed by Paul Feig.
The cast details have not been revealed yet, but since it will bring us back to the original Ghostbusters world, people are expecting Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Bill Murray will return to reprise their roles as Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore and Peter Venkman respectively.
Director Jason Reitman has dropped some hints about what to expect for the new movie. "I've always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a six-year-old visiting the set," Jason Reitman told EW.
"I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans. This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the '80s happened in the '80s, and this is set in the present day."
The release date for the highly anticipated movie is expected to be July 10, 2020, according to DigitalSpy. If you're in the Calgary area, make sure to keep an eye out for Ghostbusters production in spring or summer! We're so excited for this iconic movie to be filmed on Canadian soil.
