Summer days are flying by, and it's likely that you want to cram as many adventures as you can into the next two months, before reality smacks you in the face in September. Plan carefully enough, and you might just be able to finish your entire summer 2017 bucket list.
If you're anything like the average millennial, one thing is probably standing in the way of you having an incredible summer. Money. Lucky for you, Calgary has some super fun ways to spend your summer days, completely free of charge. Check out the list below, and add some to your plans!
1. Float down the Bow River
This is always a super fun group activity. Grab your favourite floatie, throw on your bathing suit and some sun screen, and spend your day relaxing on the water.
2. Explore The New Gallery
Who doesn't love free art? The New Gallery is an artist-run centre full of contemporary art, a lot of which is super cool.
3. Relax in the TD Devonian Gardens
Ride the elevator all the way to the top of the TD Square downtown, and you'll find yourself in one of the world's largest indoor botanical gardens.
4. Take a hike in Fish Creek Provincial Park
Hikes are obviously always free, but usually require some travelling. Fish Creek is well within city limits, so you can even save on gas money.
5. Impromptu photoshoots in Kensington Village
Easily one of Calgary's coolest neighbourhoods, Kensington is filled with rad street art and cute boutiques for you and your bestie to take some pics.
6. Take in the views at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary and Nature Centre
Basically the most chill, relaxing day ever. Observe some wildlife while you take a nature walk. Don't forget your camera!
7. Take a guided tour of the Downtown Public Art Circuit
At 5pm on the first Thursday of every month, a guide is available to show you some of Calgary's most interesting downtown art. You can also download a brochure or audio tour on your phone and go by yourself.
8. Enjoy a free pancake breakfast everyday during Stampede week
Need we say more? Locations for 2017 have yet to be released, but can easily be found on social media.
9. Window shop on Stephen Ave
The next best thing to shopping is pretending to shop, right? Stephen Ave is lined with some of the cutest boutiques for you to check out. At least when you have the funds to shop, you'll already know all the best places.
10. Cry over puppies at Pet-A-Palooza
On July 29th & 30th, you can watch some of the cutest dogs compete in agility demos and shows, or snap a picture with them in the photo lounge.
11. Check out the live entertainment at the Inglewood Sunfest
On August 5th, get outside and support some incredible local talent. If you have some cash to spare, this event also has some of the best food trucks in the city. We're drooling just thinking about it.
