When people hear the word Edmonton, 9 times out of 10 the only thing they think about is the West Edmonton Mall (and the other 1/10 times it's probably just how cold it is here in the winter). Yes, the mall is undeniably great; it's the largest mall in North America, it has a roller coaster, a pool, and just about every store you could imagine, but Edmontonians are more than just a freaking mall, okay?

You may not know it, but Edmonton is absolutely awesome, and is just teeming with cool places that are undiscovered by visitors. Today my goal is to show you just how awesome Edmonton really is. Next time you're in town, you should definitely check out one of these super cool places:

Snow Valley Aerial Park

Where: 13204 Rainbow Valley Rd NW

@kassidyquinnembedded via

Edmonton is home to one of Canada's first aerial parks, and it's just as fun (if not more) as it sounds. Spend the day climbing, jumping, and balancing your way across these suspended obstacles - hope you're not afraid of heights!

Elk Island National Park

Where: 54401 Range Rd 203

@shane_turgeonembedded via

Just 30 mins outside of metro Edmonton, Elk Island National Park is one of Alberta's most underrated parks, as it is often overshadowed by Banff and Jasper. No less beautiful, this spot is guaranteed to provide some of the best sunsets you've ever seen.

Route 99 Diner

Where: 8820 99 St NW

@vivianxtaoembedded via

Craving some greasy diner grub? This diner in Edmonton has got you covered. With major vintage vibes, you will feel like you've either travelled back in time or travelled to the set of Riverdale. Peep that Pop's sign! Major Instagram material.

Rogers Place

Where: 10545 106 Ave NW

@n_kurzhalsembedded via

What's more Canadian than watching a good ol' hockey game with a can of beer in hand and some popcorn in the other? Whether you're catching an Oilers game or Team Canada, Rogers Place is the perfect venue to get you hyped up and proud to be Canadian.

Pembina River Tubing

Where: 53217 Range road 74 A

@ivaniagiseleembedded via

In need of some relaxation? Why not spend the day floating down a lazy river with friends getting your tan on and enjoying the views? Just an hour outside the city, this river is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown Edmonton.

The Rec Room

Where: 1725 99 St NW

@valeriiaopolishchukembedded via

Want to get your gaming on? Head on down to The Rec Room to embrace your inner kid. This adult arcade lets you drink while you game, making you either a heck of a lot better or a heck of a lot worse at skee-ball.

Strathcona Science Provincial Park

Where: 8650 17 St NW

@christse_embedded via

This gorgeous provincial park is the perfect place to go on a walk, bike, or run. With views of the city and lots of cool little spots to explore, you can spend hours here without getting bored! It's also a great place to catch the sunset.

Little Brick

Where: 10004 90 St NW

@jades_ootdembedded via

This adorable little restaurant is one of Edmonton's finest, and it's also freaking gorgeous. Located in the heart of Edmonton, Little Brick is a cafe, restaurant, general store, and event space all in one! It's the perfect spot to have a little IG photoshoot too.

The Bower

Where: 10538 Jasper Ave

@sweatyegembedded via

What better way to cap off a visit to Edmonton than dancing the night away? This bar is not your typical trashy spilled-beer-all-over-the-floor spot either - it's super unique and a great place to have an awesome night with friends!
