The turn of the season is near, friends, and what better way to kick-start the spring shenanigans than with an epic celebration à la St. Patrick’s Day?
That’s right, March 17 marks a most wonderful day, and you can bet that Vancouverites know how to get the party started. Every year, Paddy’s Day-goers pack into pubs to honour the two long-held traditions: all-green errthang and the always-apropos spirit: whiskey (but seriously, Jameson, anyone?).
As far as where to find the party (and $6.00 Jameson, Ginger & Lime cocktails), we’ve mapped out 10 of Vancouver’s most epic Paddy’s celebrations. You’re welcome.
Dubh Linn Gate Vancouver
Where: 1601 Main Street
Oh, that Irish cheer - seriously, is there anything better? Dubh Linn Gate is one of Vancouver’s most iconic Irish pubs and the perfect place to get your St. Pat's party crawl started.
Every year, Dubh Linn Gate schedules live music and Irish dancers (talk about the real deal!). As for the bevvies, you can bet they keep ‘em flowing - with a selection of beers from across the Emerald Isle. You can also enjoy a delicious bite... or two. Did someone say pretzels and cheese? Yes, please!
The Blarney Stone
Where: 216 Carrall Street
After you’ve spent some time whetting your appetite, The Blarney Stone is the place to be. Seriously, guys, as Vancouver's longest-running Irish pub, these folks really know how to throw a Paddy’s Day party!
Of course, live music runs till the wee hours of the morning, but they’ve also booked pipers, a hula hooper, Celtic dancers, and even a stilt walker. Just make sure your phone is fully charged, ‘cause this is a party you’re definitely going to want to catch on camera.
The Portside Pub
Where: 7 Alexander Street
Sponsored by Jameson, the party at The Portside includes complimentary samples of the legendary Irish whiskey - so you just know it’s going to be a party of epic proportions!
Live music courtesy of The Shenanigans will play until 2:00 AM, and if you’re craving some late-night bites, you can bet The Portside has those too - taters, anyone?
The Score on Davie
Where: 1262 Davie Street
A go-to destination for locals and tourists alike, The Score’s claim to fame are its epic Caesars (we’re talking the 'gram-worthy type, y'all). Think decked-out cocktails featuring onions rings, hot wings, burgers, tacos and, yep, even cheesecake.
Top-notch drinks and pub food make this legendary venue a total must this Paddy’s Day. Trust - this is one place where you'll want to bring all of your friends.
Where: 3357 West Broadway
If Kitsilano is your home base, then this cozy pub is most definitely the place to be. Elwoods features a rad selection of craft beer, plus taste bud-tantalizing eats like fish and chips and fresh oysters.
The ideal place if you like to keep your Paddy’s Day a little more low-key, Elwoods is definitely worth checking out.
Where: 92 Water Street
This Vancouver favourite is one of the most popular places in the city for a reason. But, seriously, if you haven’t been to the Lamplighter, do you really live in Vancouver?
In any case, there’s always plenty of fun to be had at this watering hole. St. Pat’s specials include $6.00 Jameson all day. That's right: ALL. DAY. Our only word of advice? Get there early because, with drinks this cheap, you just know the place is going to fill up fast.
Where: 3 Alexander Street
Wandering the cobblestone streets? Don’t forget to snap a group selfie (or twelve). Follow the intense pic-taking with an insane feast at LOCAL Public Eatery.
This Vancouver chain is insanely popular, and though this location is fairly new, you can bet it promises to deliver all of the awesomeness this coming St. Patrick's Day. In true Gastown fashion, friendly staff and a trendy atmosphere make for an unforgettable Paddy’s Day party.
Elephant & Castle
Where: 385 Burrard Street
Okay, okay, we know Elephant & Castle is technically a British pub, but its Irish influences run strong - we swear! Think Irish beer and whiskey, including Jameson’s Ginger & Lime cocktail (insert drool face emoji here).
This watering hole boasts a high-energy vibe and an extensive menu. Translation: It’s a great choice for a St. Pat’s party this year.
Shark Club Sports Bar & Grill
Where: 180 W Georgia Street
Here at Narcity, we’re firm believers that there are two types of people in this world: Those who love sports bars and those who just haven’t been to enough sports bars.
Shark Club may not be Irish, per se. But on St. Pat’s, you can be sure it becomes just that, what with the endless draughts, spirits, and cocktails that would make even the most devout party-goers green with envy. What's more, a chill atmosphere makes for an epic day of fun (trust us).
El Furniture Warehouse - Hastings
Where: 156 W Hastings Street
Don’t be fooled by the name: El Furniture Warehouse boasts a $5.95 food menu. 'Nuff said, right? From its origins in Vancouver’s entertainment district, this country-wide chain is a Canadian favourite - and with good reason.
The must-visit pub is also turning it up for St. Pat’s with cheap Jameson shots and party tunes into the wee hours of the night. Soooo, see you there?
With St. Patrick's Day just around the corner, it's always better to have a full idea of where you're going to be enjoying this epic celebration. So grab your favourite drink and enjoy!
