If you live in Vancouver, you've probably encountered almost all of these phrases, and most likely even use them yourself on a regular basis without even realizing.
However, you aren't alone, because everyone in the whole entire city is constantly saying the same things over and over again without even realizing that they're cliche.
So, the next time you're out on the streets or hanging out with friends, listen for some of these ten phrases that sum up what being a Vancouverite is all about.
1. "Honestly I'm just so sick of the rain always ruining my Uggs."
This is actually a very serious matter. Uggs are super comfy but also ultra pricey, so damaging them in the rain is almost a tragedy. Waterproof spray is a Vancouver essential.
2. "We should get sushi for lunch."
You never really notice how often people ask you to go out for sushi until someone brings it to your attention. Once you're aware of it, you'll realize that this is literally every Vancouverite's go to plan.
3. "I will never be able to afford a house here, but there's no way I'm moving to Surrey."
Realistically, Surrey is a great option for people who want to live moderately close to downtown without having to pay the rent that comes with living in the city. Your loss, though.
4. "I just don't really know how to feel about bike lanes, man."
Everyone has strong opinions about bike lanes. It's better to just avoid the topic at all costs, otherwise you're almost guaranteed to get into a fight. Unless you're trying to start a fight on purpose, then this is the perfect line.
5. "Oh my god it's sooooo hot outside."
This is usually said anytime the sun is even remotely visible, or when it hits 20 degrees outside.
6."I just really love that new umbrella smell."
There's something really satisfying about a brand new umbrella, especially since they're such a huge part of day to day life in Vancouver. You might as well get one to go with every outfit.
7. "At least it's not raining."
The beauty of this line is that it can be said in response to almost everything, because it's the ultimate Vancouver pick-me-up.
"Oh, my cat died." That sucks, but at least it's not raining.
8. "Which Starbucks do you want to meet at?"
This is usually said by someone who already has a Starbucks in their hand, and will inevitably meet up with their friend who also has Starbucks in their hand, in order to stop and get even more Starbucks.
9. "When's the last skytrain?"
This line can make or break your evening. It's the deciding factor on whether or not you should have another drink, or just leave the party ASAP.
10. "I can't, I'm on a cleanse."
Because let's be real, who isn't on a cleanse?
