Canada has many wonders exclusive to our borders. From Roots Clothing to bagged milk, we certainly have our own thing going on up here in the North.
Of course, some of these items are sold around the world with different branding to back up their authenticity, but there really is nothing like something made in Canada
Here is a list of 20 things you will only see in Canada:
1. Bagged Milk
As a girl who grew up on the west coast, I only recently learnt about bagged milk, since it's more popular in Ontario. I still think this is a strange concept.
2. Lays Ketchup Chips
We really like our ketchup chips up here.
A classic Canadian carnival treat. Deep fried dough and all the warm chocolatey goodness you can dream of.
4. Coffee Crisp
Crispy vanilla wafer and foamy coffee-flavoured chocolate. We like coffee so much, we have made it into a food.
Lets get really real here for a second. A Bloody Mary is NOT a Caesar. First of all, Clamato and tomato juice are totally different. And last time I checked I could get an entire meal in my Caesar. Take that America.
6. Real Maple Syrup
None of this Aunt Jemima's bs. Real Canadian maple syrup seems to be the one thing my American friends would do anything for.
7. Kinder Surprise with a toy inside
Yes, you can get a Kinder Surprise egg in the US but you will be extremely disappointed when you bust open the tiny chocolate shell and there is no toy. Apparently American children are at higher risk of choking, so the toys were banned.
To Americans, what we called Rockets, are referred to as Smarties. Clearly wrong.
9. Roots Clothing
The most Canadian of all clothing companies. You can't find this national animal inspired collection anywhere but Canada.
11. Bits and Bites
Who knew that a cereal and pretzel snack mix could be so exclusive. Technically you could just make your own mix but it's the brand that you can't get else where.
Chocolate fudge cookies with chocolate icing inside. Sounds like a heaven that people outside of Canada are not invited to.
13. Purdy’s Chocolate
A whole chocolate company exclusive to Canada. I think thats pretty special.
14. Naniamo bars
BC's favorite hand-held dessert consisting of wafer, chocolate and custard. Made famous in the city of, you guessed it: Naniamo, BC on Vancouver Island.
15. Bay Blanket
Since The Bay is a historically Canadian company you won't see any stores outside of Canada selling the infamous Bay Blanket.
16. Ruffles All Dressed chips
Basically the best chips out there so let just keep these to ourselves forever.
17. Molson Canadian
You can buy Molson beer outside of Canada but they call it "Molson Export" which is obviously not the same.
18. Red River Cereal
Probably the oldest cereal in history. Created in Manitoba in 1924 and still enjoyed to this day.
19. Chapman's Ice Cream
Canada's largest independent ice cream manufacturer. They have over 289 products and they are all exclusive to Canada.
Although this snack has been discontinued we still sell them in Canada and I know for a fact you can get them on the No Frills on Hastings so stock up.
