Over the last few years, New West has gone from your average city to a hub for all things artsy and cool.
With attractions like River Market, the urban beach, and all kinds of unique little restaurants, New West is the perfect day trip for both tourists and locals looking to reacquaint themselves with the newly transformed city.
With so much to do, here are some of the top reasons to add New West to your list of summer destinations.
1. It’s the perfect summer hangout spot.
With sandy volleyball courts and built in umbrellas and beach chairs, it’s the perfect place to spend your day. Since everything is already there for you, you don’t have to worry about bringing anything at all except for you and your friends. It offers all the same things as a downtown beach, but without the humongous crowds.

2. There’s art everywhere.
From the “W” made out of 40-foot long shipping containers, to the world’s tallest tin solider, New West is definitely home to some cool art pieces. Front and centre in all of this is the “Wait For Me, Daddy” sculpture, based on the famous photograph taken by Claude P. Dettloff. There’s art hidden all around the city, making it feel as though you’re in an outdoor art gallery.

3. It’s a great place to take a date.
Pick up some gelato from Tre Galli Gelato Caffe in the market, and head out for a walk along the water. If the date goes really well, put a lock on the love lock bridge and throw away the key so they know it’s real.

4. It’s one of the few places where you can casually observe a circus school.
If you ever want to feel bad about your athletic abilities, stop on by River Market and watch people as they perform acrobatics, flips, jumps and more. If you’re feeling extra confident and daring, the Vancouver Circus School also offers drop in classes, and will even host your bachelorette party.

5. River Market is the bomb.
It has all the cute little knick knacks you could ever hope to find and never knew you needed, all in one place!

6. It’s home to Antique Alley.
It’s exactly what it sounds like. All of the antique stores you could ever need are conveniently located right next to each other in an alleyway, making shopping a breeze. If the first store you go into doesn’t have anything that catches your eye, try the next one. Or the next one, or the next one…..

7. If shopping isn’t your thing, there’s always Queen’s Park.
Complete with a petting zoo and a water park, Queen’s Park is the perfect place to just chill for the day. Anywhere where you can pet some baby goats and then take a nap in the grass right after is definitely a place worth checking out.
