Vancouver is an amazing city all year round. I mean, it's a short drive from Whistler which has some amazing ski hills that are essential come winter. And what about the budding blooms of spring. The colours of fall. But there’s one season that Vancouver lives and breathes for - and that’s summer. The city transforms into a playground of festivals, patios, and parties - but that’s not all there is to love about Vancity in the summer.
Vancouver is a beautiful multicultural city, with a great urban vibe. It's no wonder that it's the place to spend the summer. Still not convinced? Well, here's 8 reasons why Vancity is the place you should be spending your summer:
1. Unwinding with nature is so easy when you've got so many outdoor activities
Summer isn’t truly summer without an escape to nature - so where do you go to escape the busy happenings of life? Well, whether it’s hiking at Joffre Lakes in the morning or relaxing at Jericho Beach (it's actually picture perfect), there's lots to see and do in the summer.
You don’t need to choose between city life and stepping away into nature. And that’s not something a lot of cities can boast. Plus, it never hurts to disconnect from your phone to enjoy some quality time with friends and of course some warm sand on those toes.
2. Vancity welcomes everyone and anyone to the city
Stepping into Vancouver feels like you hit the melting pot. We embrace diversity like no other, from our friendly neighbours to the numerous festivals that celebrate other cultures like the TD Vancouver Chinatown Festival.
Being part of such a strong cultural mosaic means there's actually always something to do. Why not grab a bubble tea in Chinatown? Or how about a fancy Americano and a delicious cannoli from Little Italy on Commercial Drive?
3. There is always something happening every weekend from festivals to parties
Vancouver is known for its great outdoors but it's also known for its numerous festivals. Whether it's food, fashion, music or comedy. No other city parties like Vancouver, closing of city streets for festivals, shows, and events, with our faves like Pride Vancouver, Khatsalano or Kits Fest. And if you happen to be at any one of these, make sure to keep an eye out for the 7UP® Lemon Lemon™ pop-up stand and enjoy a refreshing can of sparkling lemonade.
Summer is all about having fun with friends so disconnect from social media and remember to enjoy everything Vancouver has to offer. You really don’t need to think too hard to find a new surprise around the corner in Vancouver this summer.
4. It's easy to beat the heat when you've got so many amazing patios and plenty of beaches nearby
Whether it's checking out the delicious ice cream at Kitsilano, or taking a trip to English Bay Beach, there are plenty of options.
However, our vote is to head to one of Vancouver's many outdoor pools (Kitsilano Pool am I right?) with your besties and savour an icy cool sparkling lemonade like 7UP® Lemon Lemon™. Nothing beats a relaxing day by the pool, sun tanning all day with a refreshing drink in hand. And don’t let the name fool you; Lemon Lemon is not just available in lemon flavour. Get into serious refreshment mode with Cucumber Mint or White peach.
5. Do we even need to mention the food? A world of flavours comes together which is how we ended up with some of the best cuisine in the world.
Um, I think it's safe to say that our food is out of this world and the number of options for fine dining is absolutely astonishing. Craving a little Italian? We've got you covered. Indian? Speak no more.
A melting pot of cultures, there's no better place to enjoy cuisine from all over the world than Vancouver. Your tastebuds are in for a real treat. Plus, it's the perfect way to escape to another country without ever leaving your favourite city.
Each week you could take a culinary adventure to a new part of the world, whether it's fine dining, a sprawling patio (we do that best) or a corner cafe.
(Pro tip: Cactus Club Cafe is worth checking out).
6. Vancouver's art scene is unrivaled and pretty impressive
Vancouverites see the world in a way that is different to the rest of the world. While we often focus on the hustle and the 9-5 grind, it's true that Vancouverites work to enjoy the finer things in life.
You can see this with our rich art culture - it's not just in the amazing galleries but in its street art, too. A city with thousands of festivals, street art (our murals make the perfect Instagram picture), and fashion, you can’t help but be inspired by the creativity which is seeping from the pores of this city.
Grab your family or friends and spend the day exploring the city to find the hidden gems on the underground art scene. If you're looking for specifics... the Rennie Collection Museum is definitely worth checking out. Just look out for the bright red wall with white neon lights in Gastown.
7. You can spend your weekends on a boat by the water without a care in the world
How is this possible? I'm talking about Harrison Lake.
Harrison Lake is the perfect place for some serious fun in the water! It's THE place to hangout on the weekends and it's one of the reasons that Vancouver is the place to spend the summer. Bonus: Check out Harrison Hotsprings while you're there for a relaxing soak.
8. It's the place for BFFs in summer
You might just be visiting Vancouver or living here but either way, this is the place to be in summer.
Grab your besties and experience summer the carefree way: whether it’s relaxing at one of Vancity's beautiful patios or heading to one of many, amazing Instagram-worthy beaches, picnicking and enjoying an icy cool can of sparkling lemonade. This. is. the. life.
