After their mortgage or rent, gas prices are always near the top of mind for most people when it comes to their monthly expenses. So if you’re living in one Canadian city right now you’re really feeling the pinch a the pumps now.
That city would be Vancouver, where prices are the highest of anywhere in Canada and have just hit a new record.
That record would be an astounding 158.9 cents per litre. For some context in the area around Toronto, historically known for high gas prices, the average price of gas is 137.9 cents per litre today.
That’s over a 20 cent difference.
And it doesn’t look like there is any relief whatsoever coming for Vancouver drivers.
Prices are expected to continue to rise, some experts believe that it may even hit over the 165 cents per litre mark by the summer.
Which is of course just terrible news if you drive in that area.
One expert, named Dan McTeague, says that it may even keep rising after the summer as well.
"Whatever prices we see from today on continue to establish new records for gasoline for any major city across North America, and will continue to do so for the remainder of 2018," he said.
So Vancouver is clearly just incredibly expensive to live in right now.
First there is the expressive real estate market and now the price of gas is also through the roof.
