The 110,000 square foot facility will house two 25 metre-length swimming pools, an eight-lane tank, a six-lane tank and the biggest hot tub in all of Canada. The City of Richmond released a statement on Tuesday stating that the facility will house all the latest and greatest in indoor fitness equipment, including some seriously huge pools.
According to the statement, the facility is designed by HCMA Architecture and Design and the new $79 million building will have six bodies of water including Canada’s largest hot tub! If this isn’t reason enough to go, I don’t know what is!
Along with the largest hot tub in Canada, you can enjoy two 25-metre pools and a large leisure pool with a river run and spray features. There will also be a wellness area with two hot pools, a cold plunge pool, and a sauna and steam room. The new facility will be located at 7191 Granville Avenue in Richmond.
The large and in charge aquatic facility will provide 60% more surface water area than the current Minoru Aquatic Centre, making it the perfect place to splash away an afternoon.
The whopping 110,000 square foot facility will also include an 8,500 square foot fitness building where you can get your sweat on. Eight team rooms will also be available for those who use the fields and multipurpose sporting areas on the facility grounds.
Once you have completely exhausted yourself with all the activities, you can hit up the full-service cafeteria and bistro. Be sure to take your food to go as there will be three new outdoor public plazas with public art installations.
In addition to all the wonderful physical activity equipment, there will be a seniors centre with a lounge, billiards and game room, cafeteria, multipurpose rooms, a music room, art studio, and woodworking shop. According to Richmond News, the art studio is 33,000 square feet with the other events space measuring in at 8,000 square feet.
Back in the fall of 2018, the Minoru Centre was set to open but due to construction issues, the date was pushed forward.
