Justin Trudeau and the President of Amazon Canada just made a live public announcement about the massive expansion of the company's headquarters in downtown Vancouver. The new headquarters will take up 416,000 square feet on West Georgia Street, where the Canada Post head offices used to be.
The headquarters will be a hub for tech and innovation, and will have 3,000 job openings in e-commerce technology, cloud computing and machine learning. In addition to the 6,000 Canadians that are already employed by Amazon across the country.
Along with @CanadianPM & @MayorGregor, we're honoured to welcome our valued partner @amazon.ca to The Post, a landmark location at Vancouver’s new social & cultural nexus. The Post will be home to 7000 people who will work, create and collaborate here. https://t.co/jeS7epiQUc pic.twitter.com/lnuKZpG8xy— QuadReal (@QuadRealGroup) April 30, 2018
Not only will the new HQ sit on top of the historic Canada Post building downtown, it'll have top-notch amenities and features. New artist renderings of the facility show how sleek, modern and massive the space will be. It's set to open its doors in 2022.
Two years before this headquarters opens, another Amazon office is set to open its doors in downtown Vancouver. Amazon confirmed their new offices on Dunsmuir Street in November, a nine-storey tower that will add 1,000 new tech jobs to the Amazon Canada team. Back in 2015, Amazon staked out a 156,000 square foot office space in TELUS Garden.
