It's a good time to be a woman, especially if you're living in Victoria! A study that looked into the gap between men and women when it comes to things within the workforce in 25 of Canada's largest metropolitan cities places Victoria at the top of the list. The study considered things like access to economic security, health, education, personal security and positions of leadership in Canada's biggest cities.
This is actually the second year in a row that Victoria has held this prestigious spot, mostly due to the gap between men and women's employment opportunities being so small and the number of women in politics. When it comes to government alone, Victoria already had a step up. As we know, Victoria holds a female mayor which is one of the few cities on the list to do so, as well as 42 per cent of it's elected officials are female according to the study.
The study also stated that Canada as a whole has quite a tight gap when it comes to male-female employment, with close to half of the workforce made up of females, but Victoria's female-heavy political system definitely keeps them ahead of the curve.
Vancouver came in 9th on the list which isn't so bad, but if you're a gal out there looking for work, it could be time to hop the ferry!
