11 Day Trips To Take In Vancouver If You Actually Hate Road Trips

Minimal driving for these spots!

With the days getting longer and sunnier, it seems like there is no better time to go on long day trips from Vancouver. But what happens if you absolutely hate being on the road? And you just can't stand being trapped in a car for more than two hours at a time?

Luckily, there are plenty of day trips you can take from Vancouver that don't involve driving for hours on end - phew! Whether these spots require minimal driving or no driving at all, we've got you covered.

Victoria, BC

The capital city of British Columbia is one of the best spots to go for a day trip, and that is a widely known fact. Whilst it does require some driving - you will be taking a ferry most of the distance, and once you are there you can explore the sights in the city area without needing a car!

Bowen Island

@samhayesembedded via

Bowen Island frequently shows up on lists of best spots to travel to from Vancouver, and with good reason. Only a half an hour ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay, it is honestly one of the best day trips you can take from Vancouver! Our recommendation is the spend the morning hiking, then grab lunch at a local restaurant, and end the day by exploring the local art galleries and museums.

Deep Cove, North Vancouver

Deep Cove is so near to Vancouver (only a 40 minute drive from Downtown), yet it seems like a whole different city! You can spend the day hiking up to Quarry Rock, stand-up paddleboarding or kayaking, and when you've exhausted all your energy, grab some of the famous goodies from Honey's Doughnuts.

Mayne Island

This one is definitely for nature lovers - filled with picturesque landscapes and rich forestry! Just a short distance, Mayne Island is located between Vancouver and Vancouver Island, and requires a short ferry ride to reach there. The weather is much dryer than Vancouver and is almost always pleasant!

Gabriola Island

Gabriola Island can be reached easily by either ferry or floatplane, and has one of the best climates in Canada! If you love beaches, parks, ocean views, and sunsets, this is the perfect day trip destination for you. There are also loads of local galleries and shops to explore.

Squamish, BC

Honestly, a day trip destination would not be complete without a mention of Squamish. If Whistler is too long of a road trip for you, Squamish is perfect - only a one hour drive. There are so many hikes, lakes, and beautiful spots to see in Squamish, and in such close proximity to Vancouver!

Whale Watching

Whale watching from Vancouver is something that everyone needs to tick off their bucket list - seeing orcas, humpback whales, and more in the wild is one of the most amazing experiences you could have. The summer months are also the perfect season as thousands of whales migrate through the waters near Vancouver!

Langley Wineries

@tacklorembedded via

Langley actually has nine wineries and two breweries that you can visit, all within an extremely picturesque area! This region has secured its place as a competitor in the global market for wine, and is a great spot for a day trip from Vancouver. It is also only an hour drive away!

Cypress Mountain

Cypress Mountain is also only a one hour drive away from Vancouver, and although the area is most known for being a ski resort during the winter months - there are many hikes and beautiful spots to be seen around the area! If you are seeking outdoor activities to do, this is the perfect spot for you.

Grouse Mountain

@danielleheath9embedded via

Hiking enthusiasts, rejoice because the Grouse Grind is now open for the season! Recently reopening after a month of routine maintenance, the most popular hike in Vancouver is now ready for all hikers to take up the challenge. Less than an hour away from Vancouver, the Grouse Grind leads to fantastic views on a clear sunny day.

Chinatown

@bevvkerrembedded via

Chinatown in Vancouver might not seem like your first choice of day trip destinations - but it is one of Vancouver's few distinct cultural historic neighbourhoods! Spending the day here is extremely enriching, we recommend checking out local Chinese eateries, the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, and exploring the streets and local shops.
