Thankfully, you live in British Columbia - one of the planet's most beautiful and exciting natural playgrounds filled with hidden gems and secret treasures. You really don't have to go that far to experience exciting new things.
You don't have to fly your bae out to Bali or Indonesia to experience something absolutely magical because the great PNW has it all (though of course, I'm sure she'd still appreciate going to Asia). From hot springs to waterfalls, ice caves to rustic cabins, BC is abounding with spectacular sights to see and we've cherry-picked a few of our favourite "secret" places you can surprise her with.
Lussier Hot Springs
Where: Whiteswan Lake Provincial Park // Kootenay
Why you should go: Lussier Hot Springs at Whiteswan Lake Provincial Park is one of the most stunning undeveloped hot springs in BC. It can be quite busy during the summer, but during the colder seasons, this is the place where you'll fine your winter solace. Located 17.5km into the Whiteswan Forest service road, there is a little bit of a hike to take to this hot springs, but it is so worth it. And your girlfriend will definitely appreciate the insta photo ops.
Ocean Village Resort
Where: 555 Hellesen Dr // Tofino
Why you should go: Go on a little getaway vacay with bae and rent out one of these adorable mini cabins. These cabins are perfect for cuddling away the weekend as you enjoy the beautiful views of Chesterman Beach. The beach might not sound like the most suiting place to be during the winter, but trust us, the vibes are so cozy at this resort you'll forget it's even that time of year.
Where: Chilliwack // Fraser Valley
Why you should go: If you love the wilderness and crave those PNW vibes during the winter time, then Jones Lake is an absolute must. Just on the other side of the lake is sweeping views of snow-capped mountains that only feel like an arm's distance away, and the night sky is so clear that you can see millions of twinkling stars. It's just far away enough from Vancouver to escape the city, but close enough that you can make a day trip out of it.
WOODS on Pender
Where: 4709 Canal Rd // Pender Island
Why you should go: Glamping in the summertime is a blast, but glamping during the winter is absolutely magical. WOODS on Pender is a 7.3-acre luxury campground that offers various types of glamping experiences, from airstreams to rustic cabins and more. You can cuddle with your S/O in a hammock and look up at the stars or get steamy in an outdoor hot tub as you take in the enchanted woods.
Kootenay National Park
Where: Kootenay National Park // East Kootenay
Why you should go: If your girl is an outdoorsy wanderluster who wants to experience a true winter wonderland this holiday season, then you absolutely have to take her to Kootenay National Park. Located along the border of Alberta, behold the majestic Canadian Rockies as you experience a true Canadian winter with mountains, rivers and evergreen trees that become completely laden with snow. While you're here, you need to take your bae to Radium Hot Springs. After a long day of exploring, you'll both really appreciate a nice hot soak.
Goldstream Provincial Park
Where: 2930 Trans-Canada Hwy // Victoria
Why you should go: Just a short drive away from downtown Victoria is Goldstream Provincial Park. This natural playground is a treasure trove of sights to see and little hidden wonders, like the Goldstream Trestle Bridge and Niagra Falls (obvs not the one in Ontario, but just as spectacular).
Nectar Yoga B&B
Where: 1258 Miller Rd // Bowen Island
Why you should go: If you and/or your girlfriend are huge yogis, then a retreat to Nectar Yoga B&B is what you need during a hectic holiday season. This yoga sanctuary hosts workshops and events every weekend that will rejuvenate your mind and body. Though it is closed for most of December, it will be up and running again in January.
Hot Springs Cove
Where: Maquinna Provincial Park // Vancouver Island
Why you should go: Hot Springs Cove is one of BC's favourite little gems that locals and tourists love to flock to. Hence, during the summer it is absolutely packed. That's why the prime time to go is during the winter months when it quiets down and the hot springs become absolutely serene. A warning though, the smell of sulphur can be quiet strong, so be prepared for that.
Blackcomb Sleigh Rides
Where: 4890 Glacier Dr // Whistler
Why you should go: Gift your bae with the most romantic Christmas date that she's only ever imagined in her dreams. Take your girl on a sleigh ride through Whistler's magical snowy backyard. You can either go for a sleigh ride with a group, or even go on a private adventure with the love of your life. And I mean, if you're already going to Whistler this winter, why not?
Where: Pemberton Icefields // Pemberton
Why you should go: If you're really looking to treat your S/O this Christmas with an unforgettable experience, then look no further because the Pemberton Ice Fields are a wonder to behold. These ancient ice caves glow with hues and shades of blue and turquoise that you never even knew existed. You can get to these pristine ice caves by snowmobile or helicopter excursions.
Where: Yoho National Park // Golden
Why you should go: An absolutely stunning sight to see, Wapta Falls is the largest waterfall of Kicking Horse River at approximately 30 meters high and 150 meters wide. Hike through a magical labyrinth of trails and experience the roar and thunder of this epic waterfall.
