We all know that Vancouver is the most expensive city in Canada, we've heard it over and over. And of course we have experienced it first hand. The good news is Vancouverites are really resourceful and this city is full of exciting things to do that won't break the bank.
From spending the morning lounging on the beach to enjoying movies in Stanley Park at night, this list will not only help you save some much needed dough, but you'll never have Fomo again.
So if you're broke AF but still want to enjoy your summer, here is a list of 22 things to do that won't have you dipping into your savings:
1. Canada Day fireworks at Canada Place
Every year Vancouver hosts the Canada Day Firework show at Canada Place. It can get pretty packed so I recommend going early.
2. Movies in Stanley Park
Every summer Stanley Park hosts the Evo Summer Cinema Series on Tuesday nights. Admission is free for everyone but it gets busy so come early and make sure you bring a few blankets, it gets cold after the sun sets.
3. Check out any of the Night Markets
Vancouver has so many night markets these days and they are all (basically) free:
Richmond Night Market: $2.75 admission
Chinatown Night Market: Free
International Night Market: Free
4. Celebration of Light in English Bay
If you have never been to the Celebration of Light, I highly recommend you check it out this year. It can get super crowed but a great place to watch is from the Burrard Bridge. Take a hike out to the middle of the bridge and download a radio app on your phone because they set off the fireworks to music play on LG104.3FM. July 23, 27 and 30th.
5. Granville Island Market
There is always something happening on Granville Island. Take a walk around the seawall and through the island. You are sure to be entertained.
6. Vancouver Art Gallery on a Tuesday night
Tuesday night is by donation and right now until June they have a really cool exhibit happening. Grab your bf and make it a date night!
7. Yoga at Wreck Beach
Broke and in need of some exercise? Attend a by donation yoga session at sunset on Wreck Beach. Every Thursday from 6:30-7:45pm, make sure you bring your yoga mat and a towel!

8. HR MacMillan Observatory
Visiting the Space Centre can be pretty pricey but if your just looking to check out the Observatory it is by donation only.
9. Spend a day at the beach
Vancouver has so many beautiful beaches to spend all your time at this summer. Grab you besties, split a six pack and you're golden! (golden brown from the great tan you'll get!)
10. Free Salsa lessons at Robson Square
Enjoy free salsa lessons every Sunday in July and August at 3pm and the stick around for the performances at 5pm.
11. Free Admission Day at the PNE
No date has been posted online yet but usually free admission day is sometime in August. Expect long line ups.
12. Take a walk in Stanley Park
There are countless things to check out in the park and you'll get some exercise while you're at it.

13. Go Celebrity-spotting
Check out this list of locations where movies an TV shows are being filmed in Vancouver right now and maybe you'll spot one of your favorite celebrities!
14. Go for a bike ride
Vancouver is fully equipped for all kinds of bike riding. From mountain biking in North Vancouver to a casual ride along the seawall.

15. Play Frisbee Golf at Queen Elizabeth Park
If you have never played Frolf, this is your year. Join a team or just gather some friends together. Enjoy a nice view of downtown from Queen E park and get some exercise.
16. Go for a hike around the Cleveland Dam
Its short hike but there is lots to do. The dam itself is picturesque and there is a small salmon fish hatchery at the bottom that can be interesting to check out!
17. Check out Italian Day on Commercial Drive
On Sunday June 6th enjoy a day of Italian culture celebrated on Commercial Drive. The street is closed to cars for the day and all kinda of street vendors set up shop for this exciting day thats been happening in Vancouver for years.

18. Check out Car-Free Day
This year marks the 12th annual Car-Free Day in Vancouver. Many communities including Commercial Drive, Main Street, Denman Street will be shut down to cars in support of this day.
19. Attend the Vancouver Pride Parade
The Vancouver Pride Parade just announced its theme for this years celebration: "Better Together" will be the slogan at this years event so grabbed your loved one, toss on some bright colours and join the march down Davie Street.
20. Take a hike in Lynn Valley
Only a short drive from downtown and you can spend the day enjoying a beautiful hike in North Vancouver. Pack and lunch and enjoy a picnic!
21. Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge
The free alternative to the Capilano Suspension Bridge. If you have never been, its a great place for a new Instagram photo!
22. Hike the Grouse Grind
The grind itself is free and a great way to challenge yourself physically. There is a $10 fee for the gondola ride down but trust me, you're going to need it after that hike.
