The Sunshine Coast, just north of Vancouver, truly feels like an island getaway, even though it is just a short trip from the mainland. It is accessible by both ferry or air, and there are so many things you can enjoy doing there - including hiking, water activities, food, and so much more.
The best part is, you can get there within two hours from Downtown Vancouver! The Sunshine Coast truly lives up to its name, averaging 4 to 6 hours of sunshine per day - and it will make the perfect day trip or weekend trip this summer whilst the days are at their longest.
If you're after clear blue waters, dazzling sunshine, and white sand, look no further than Savary Island. It is truly like the hidden tropics in BC, paired with a great deal of histroy behind it (First Nations of the Sunshine Coast used to use it as a principal summer meeting spot). If you have a weekend to spare, grab one of the cabins on the island and retreat into the wilderness!
On a clear, sunny day, nothing beats a hike with a breathtaking view at the end. This particular hike is steep - but short - and leads you atop a hill with beautiful views towards Keats Island and out towards the Straight of Georgia.
This massive lake has endless possibilities - there are so many shorelines to explore and some of the warmest water around. Whether you're interested in swimming, paddle sports, boating, or just lazing around in the sun, you'll be able to do it at Ruby Lake. There are plenty of kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals nearby!
Located in Princess Louisa Marine Provincial Park is Chatterbox Falls, a 40m high waterfall that is a popular desination for visitors to the Sunshine Coast. It is a beautiful waterfall surrounded by greenery, and you won't want to miss seeing it - there's something about being in the presence of a waterfall that is like nothing else!
This spot is located north of Sechelt on the Sunshine Coast, and is an enjoyable hike that leads to scenic coastal views of the cove and its picturesque waters. It is a great spot to have a leisurely hike and go swimming in the serene blue waters!
You can't go to the Sunshine Coast without experiencing some of their famous seafood - it doesn't get any fresher than this. Try Sharkey's Fish Locker for some local (and seriously delicious) fish and chips!
For one of the best spots on the Sunshine Coast to view the sunset, head to Halfmoon Bay. It boasts a stunning view of the coastline and has a view directly across to Vancouver Island!
To get to the popular Sechelt Rapids (where the rapids are famous for their whirlpools and whiteware), you have to take a leisurely hike through Skookumchuck Narrows Provincial Park - where you will be surrounded by greenery and towering trees. The scenery around is beautiful, and you will be able to witness a variety of flora.
