As beautiful as they are, everyone and their mothers has been to Brandywine and Alexander Falls. But maybe you're past them by now. Not only are they loud and sometimes ear-shattering but they make you need to use the washrooms. So really, why chase waterfalls? Just stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to.
Forget about driving all the way to the interior though, you're not into the dry heat. How about Whistler? Not only do you have still lakes, loaded trails and vibrant nightlife, but a lazy river that we're about to give you the details on.
The "River of Golden Dreams" (yes, that is the real name!) is a five kilometer river that starts at Alta Lake and flows all the way down into Green Lake. In general, it takes a minimum of two hours to complete, but you can get out of the lake at any point you like.
This river is the perfect way to clear your head after a massive hangover, and also makes for an insane half-day trip. Not only can you tube through, but it's perfect for beginners to kayak, canoe or paddleboard over! Just a warning though, the river can be fast paced. It might pose a difficulty for inexperienced tubers or those in small tubes, we larger sized rafts and to be a strong swimmer.
In addition to the flat water, you'll find beaver dams and lodges, and all kinds of wildlife, completely immersing you with nature. What's even better is that after 30 minutes, you lose sight of all power lines as well.
Want some tips?
Make sure to bring something to protect your phone. You can use a Ziploc bag or you can usually find waterproof bags in Whistler for cheap.
If travelling with friends, you can park one car at the bottom of Green Lake to save yourselves the trip. Both Alta and Green Lake have free parking.
If you're not into self-guided tours, you can find guided, three-hour tours here.
Be sure to bring your own bag to put garbage in. The last thing we need is more pollution in our backyard - so don't ruin it for everyone else.
And if you needed any more convincing, here's a sneak peak of the awesome ride that you're missing out on!
