It's a common joke that Canadians live in igloos - and although for BC (and most of Canada) that might not necessarily be the case, why not actually try sleeping in an igloo for a night? This might just be the coolest (pardon the pun) sleepover you've ever had.
Feel as Canadian as ever. Building and sleeping in your own igloo is a super cool way to experience the true north strong and free. Igloos have been a form of accommodation for thousands of years and you'll get to experience it firsthand!
You can have the ultimate adventure experience sleeping in an igloo on top of Whistler Mountain. You have two options for this super cool and Canadian excursion, West Coast Adventures and Canada West Mountain School. Both have adventure packages that lead to you building and/or staying in an igloo!
The Canada West Mountain School offers an overnight 2.5 day trip into the great Canadian wilderness. During this tour, you get to spend the night in an Igloo with your friends and learn the skills needed for overnight winter camping, such as basic survival techniques for winter travel and Avalanche skills training.
This is also an awesome way to get experience and prepare for future winter camping trips. Skis or snowshoes can be used during this course! The cost is $265 + GST and includes instruction by professional guide/instructors for 2.5 days, instructional manuals, and use of their supplies such as 4-season Mountain Tents and avalanche beacons. West Coast Adventure's packages for an igloo adventure start at $225 per person. The most budget-friendly of their tours, "Adventure No.2" is a day trip with a short snowshoe hike to the igloo site, private igloo instruction, and includes snacks and liquids. They offer a variety of tours for different prices. One of the tours is a dog sled and igloo adventure that consists of igloo building, a dog sled ride through Whistler's picturesque winter terrain. The tour ends with a gourmet dinner and fine wine served in your snow kitchen. For more information on this tour, click here.
