Four pounds of noodles, four pounds of meat and four pounds of broth. That's what you'll get when you order a the Super Bowl at Dong Thap Noodles, the home of the world's largest bowl of pho.
Located just two hours away from Vancouver, the restaurant challenges its visitors to take on their "Super Bowl Challenge". For those not familiar, pho is a type of Vietnamese soup made primarily from beef stock, noodles and sliced beef or chicken. While it's traditionally served in a bowl that's already large, Dong Thap takes it to the next level by serving it in a bowl so big you could sit in it.
The challenge is simple - you have exactly 90 minutes to get through 12 pounds of pho, served in a bowl that is 16" in diameter and 5" in height. The clock starts as soon as the bowl is placed on your table. You can choose to let it cool, but that will be counted as part of your used time.
It's not all for nothing, either. Dong Thap rewards its victors with some pretty sweet prizes, including a free meal, $100 in cash and your photo on their Wall of Fame. The Superbowl Challenge was offered during Superbowl season last year, but their current menu still has it listed as an option.
The Super Bowl Pho Challenge costs $45 and is by appointment only. You could also get the giant bowl without doing the challenge, if you'd prefer to enjoy it at your own pace.
