In a time when it seems like all of our favourite bars are closing (I'm lookin' at you, Greenroom, Luxalune, and Union), it's refreshing to hear that a new one is opening.
It's called Underdogs, and the highly-anticipated St. James sports bar finally opened its doors last night at 2609 Portage Ave (the former location of St. James Tap and Table, and Dylan O’Connors).
The coolest thing about this sports bar is the game room—ping-pong, Skee ball, and Golden Tee are some of the games you can play as you sip on local beers, wine, or cocktails. Dozens of TVs hang on the walls, too (so you can watch the Winnipeg Jets lose in hi-def—joy).
The menu looks promising, sticking to classic pub food but adding a twist —‘animal style’ poutine, ‘no wall’ nachos, stuffed fried pickles, flatbreads, and more than a dozen flavours of wings are all appetizers offered. Build-your-own brisket board, homemade mac-n-cheese, perogy nachos, and fried chicken and waffles top off the list.
Whether its for date night or game night, we’re definitely checking this place out.
