As homecoming season begins, we thought we’d put together a list of Canadian Universities who throw the biggest alumni celebrations in the country. Be sure to visit one of these Universities and take full advantage of their homecoming vibes this fall.
St. Francis Xavier University // Antigonish, NS
St. FX’s legendary homecoming celebrations kicked off on Friday night with the StFX Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Their welcome home dinner celebration took place on September 30th, and was followed by the homecoming football game between St. FX and the Saint Mary’s Huskies on Saturday, October 1st at 2 p.m. They also host a homecoming pub night at the Bloomfield Center which will surely be an awesome time!
Dalhousie University // Halifax, NS
Between October 13th and 16th Dal will be hosting a ton of awesome homecoming events, including the President’s Fun Run/Walk and a Dal vs SMU hockey night. Grab your tickets now for the big football game on Saturday afternoon between the Dalhousie Tigers and UNB!
The University Of Western Ontario // London, ON
This year Western’s legendary HOCO celebration will take place independently of their university’s alumni events. The annual parade along Broughdale Avenue that has been known to attract up to 10,000 participants is scheduled for October 22nd, while the homecoming football game between the Western Mustangs and the Laurier Goldenhawks took place this past weekend with the Mustangs coming out victorious.
Queen’s University // Kingston, ON
This year Queen's will welcome their alumni to the first homecoming football game in the revitalized Richardson Stadium - made possible by the generosity of their donors during the Initiative Campaign. The big game will take place Saturday, October 15th between the Queen’s Gaels and the Windsor Lancers, preceded by a weekend of festivities.
McMaster University // Hamilton, ON
September 30th the McMaster University campus in Hamilton hosted their annual Homecoming Expo from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., featuring live music, a ferris wheel, food trucks and a celebration of many of the unique groups within the McMaster University community. Afterwards, at 7 p.m. Hedley took the stage for the first ever McMaster homecoming concert. Students and Alumni could be heard cheering on the McMaster Marauder’s as they took on the Guelph Gryphons at 1 p.m. this past Saturday afternoon, which was then followed by a second McMaster homecoming concert headlined by Shaggy!
Wilfrid Laurier University // Waterloo, ON
Laurier’s legendary homecoming celebration took place past weekend in Waterloo, while the Brantford campus will celebrate their alumni in late October. On Saturday, September 24th the Laurier Golden Hawks were victorious over the Waterloo Warriors in their season home opener, which happened to coincide with homecoming!
Bishop’s University // Sherbrooke, QC
This small Quebec based University is known for being an awesome party campus, and homecoming this year was no exception! The Bishop’s Gaiters secured a tight victory over Saint Mary’s this past Sarturday, and the community celebrated that night with an 80’s themed reunion/after party at the Gait on campus pub.
