You Can Now Become A Mermaid In Halifax

Yes, you read that headline right.

By now you’ve likely encountered a friend or co-worker on Instagram who has taken part in the popular trend that is Mermaid School.  Now Haligonians will have a chance to throw on a tail and learn some immersive marine skills with the help of Halifax Mermaids.  Part of the larger company Canadian Mermaids, Halifax Mermaids is a team of passionate instructors and handlers who are capable of entertaining at birthday parties, leading mermaid workshops and even teaching others the art of swimming with a monofin.

Kids and adults alike can participate in private or group classes to try and learn this unique aquatic workout.  If you’re more interested in just watching the pros, then attend one of the many Halifax Mermaids fundraisers or aquarium presentations throughout the HRM!  For class information and performance schedules, check out the Halifax Mermaid website here.

The Halifax Mermaid’s Swim School just finished a five-week workshop at the Dartmouth Sportsplex, so keep your eye out for a new round of classes in 2017.  Their last round of five classes was only $150, and they’ll even provide you with a free rental fin!  Until group sessions start up again the Halifax Mermaids are offering mobile workshops which can be found on their website.

If you're looking for something a little more low key, book a meet and greet package with the Halifax Mermaids at your next birthday party or company function.  A one-hour swim with one mermaid costs $150, plus additional charges for professional photo’s, fin rental, mermaid gift bags, etc.

For a chance to see what this awesome company is all about, catch the Mermaids as they perform at the International Boat Show at Exhibition Park February 11th and 12th!  For more event info, click here.
