After the HRM began forming a plan to provide its constituents with free wifi in 2014, three years later the Regional Council has finally voted to place hotspots in multiple locations along the Halifax and Dartmouth waterfronts this summer. The services will ideally be implemented in time for Canada’s 150th birthday celebrations in July.
The proposal discussed by the council stated that wifi would be provided all over downtown Halifax and Dartmouth, in places like Alderney Landing, Citadel Hill, Metro Transit Ferries and more. The Halifax Regional Municipality is negotiating a contract of just over $2.6 million with Bell Aliant over the course of five years in exchange for the internet coverage.
Haligonians will now be able to avoid spending tons of money on their data bill every month by connecting to a communal wifi service downtown this summer!
