Breweries have become super popular in Ottawa recently, and I think we all know why. Supporting anything local is such a great feeling, but when you throw beer into the mix, count us all in. We can branch out from the mainstream brands and really get a taste of what Ottawa is like.
All 10 of these local breweries will blow your mind with how delicious their beer is. Whether you want to hit one up for just a pint, for a birthday party, or for a night out, these breweries are all a great choice.
Don't drink and drive!
1. Kichesippi Beer Co. // 866 Campbell Drive
Kichesippo Beer Co. is one of Ottawa's most popular breweries. They have an array of different beers that are either all year round or seasonal, which keeps things interesting. They have beer tours available as well, which lets you view how exactly they brew their beers. They focus solely on quality and consistency for each product and you can definitely tell.
2. Lowertown Brewery // 73 York Street
Lowertown Brewery opened in June 2014 and has been a hit in the ByWard Market ever since. They pride theirselves on their quality local beer as well as delicious comfort food. If you're in the Market, I highly recommend stopping by for a pint.
3. Broadhead Brewing Company // 81 Auriga Drive
Broadhead got started in a basement by two men who were determined to brew their own beer. Obviously it worked out, because they're a popular brewing company here in Ottawa. The two men that started this microbrewery built it from the ground up, which is super impressive.
4. Clocktower Brew Pub // Multiple Locations
Clocktower Brew Pub got its start in Ottawa in 1996 and has been making waves ever since. This is one of Ottawa's most popular breweries and for good reason. They have house beers as well as seasonal beers, and their food is made daily with fresh ingredients that you'll die for.
5. Big Rig Kitchen and Brewery // 2750 Iris Street
Big Rig Kitchen and Brewery was co-founded by Chris Phillips, who is a retired professional hockey player for the Sens. They offer award-winning craft beer and a variety of different but delicious foods. If you can't make it to the restaurant, you can pick a few of their beers up at a local LCBO.
6. The 3 Brewers // Multiple Locations
The 3 Brewers was founded by, well, 3 brewers. The three of them wanted to open up a brewery and wanted to become the most popular one in every city. They opened their first brewery in 1985 and the rest is history. Now, they have two locations in Ottawa which both serve in-house beer as well as deliciously handcrafted food.
7. Beyond the Pale Brewing Company // 5 Hamilton Avenue
Beyond the Pale started out as a cute and friendly neighbourhood brewery but turned into so much more. Their unique beers can be found at this brewery, or at 30 restaurants and bars across the city. This brewery came to be by two guys who were chatting over pints... what a coincidence.
8. Tooth and Nail Brewing Company // 3 Irving Avenue
Tooth and Nail Brewing Company brews fresh beer and offers snacky foods for those who want a little something to eat. They're a smaller brewing company in Ottawa, but that doesn't mean they're not amazing. It's a great place to meet friends before dinner or after work, and just catch up on life.
9. Mill Street Brewery // 555 Wellington Street
Mill Street Brewery is definitely one of the most popular and well known breweries in Ottawa. They started out as a small brewery in Toronto, and made its way to different cities. They brewed the first ever organic beer in Canada and officially opened up in Ottawa in 2012 and haven't looked back since. They've won over 100 awards for their brewing skills and if you've tried their beer, you know why.
10. Waller St. Brewing // 14 Waller Street
This brewery is located in the basement of an old heritage building. Weird, right? Not at all. It sticks to the theme that their beer does: unique. Visiting here, you'll feel tucked away and Waller St. Brewery is perfect for first dates. It's very laid back and the beer is made with all natural ingredients. It's also gluten-free, so there's another reason to visit!
